this sucks balls for me. I'd have rather gone to LA to watch the fight to begin with. Fuck.

Directed at Pugmire, not OP, but this isn't really news and he has recent form with shit reporting (PPV numbers for 225).

An unnamed official says that they 'could' schedule the fight for 227 'if' Max is Ok. The fact is, they already have two title fights on that card and Max looks in bad shape. They also have no main event for 228.

Pugmire: 'Would you consider moving this fight to the next PPV if Max is healthy?'

Official: 'Sure, I guess'

Pugmire: 'Breaking news!'

I think the cut is too hard on Max, especially after a long lay-off.
slurred speech, confusion, lethargy, dizziness...also symptoms of severe dehydration.

not that Max is 'faking' or anything, but the he looked pretty sucked out and that could make a 'mild' concussion highly symptomatic.

Splinty @Splinty SC MMA MD @SC MMA MD, thoughts?

It certainly seems likely that dehydration could exacerbate symptoms of a concussion. It was pretty early for him to have been cutting water when that interview was done though, so I would not expect that dehydration was playing a significant role.

I thought the weight cut was a problem too but sources say he started having trouble before he even started to cut

As excited as I was for this fight, I selfishly would rather see Ortega fight Edgar or Stephens Saturday, as opposed to waiting for Max. There is no way Max can rush back after displaying concussive-like symptoms in such a public forum. I have to assume that from a PR perspective the UFC would likely delay re-booking it longer than medically necessary.
As much as I hate interim titles, I'd be ok with one in this case. Plus, how often do we get an amazing card like this? I would rather have the additional title fight at 226, than have Holloway/Ortega headline a weaker card in the coming months.

UFC doesn't care about their health.
Many stories of being pressured to fight injured have floated.

They need to curb interim titles.
Frankie is a legend, but doesn't deserve one right now...

If Max is pulled from a fight because he's showing visible signs of concussion, how zee heck can he be ready to rumble less than 1 month later?

That is some fucked up shit

Side note that isn't being addressed, the fight cancellation/rescheduling is hell on the guy who has to wait.... Every fighter tries to enter cut/fight week at what they feel is their peak.... Having to shut it down and move it a month or so back, really fucks with your timing and groove. Brian always seems to come in ready, and if Max truly is suffering concussion symptoms, Brian will definitely be the favorite.... But you're talking about interrupting a guys training for peak performance, right before a world title fight against a dangerous opponent.... This could work against Brian, and that would suck

I get why he decided to wait, but I wish Bortega had fought Stephens for the interim title. Yeah, Jeremy is a dangerous titleshot wrecker, but I think Brian could've handled him, given the overall skillsets. Now he has to wait and see when Max can come back. Head trauma is no joke. Hate that they had trouble waking Max up after his open workout. That sounds super sketch. Two of my favorites here. Bummed on so many levels by this news.

As said, symptoms started before the weight cut. He apparently had an episode and then got cleared and then had more symptoms.

they're saying concussion-like symptoms but apparently he was having flashing vision and slurred speech and other neurologic symptoms. This opens up a whole world of options that it could be. Maybe got injured during a training session? Could be concussion or any number of neurologic disorders.

I hope for just a concussion but he definitely shouldn't be fighting so quickly if the symptoms were that sense fear. He needs to full reset and a slow graduated return to training before he could even consider a fight. If it is a concussion, doing anything else is how you get CTE. It's how you get these concussion stacking and get easier to knock out with more severe and persistent symptoms as well.

Hope it gets better and hope hill invest the short term for his health whatever it is.

I'd like to see Max take an extended break, come back in the clear at 155.
This is should be a wake-up for him, and it gives him an opportunity to relinquish the belt without taking a beating in a fairly dehydrated state.

I hope he heeds the warnings, I really enjoy watching him fight.

If he vacates the belt for health reasons, I'd like to see Brian fight Jose or Jeremy Stephens for the FW belt in LA.

Aldo has had two straight cracks at the title.

Let him earn a title shot.
