Source: Texas teacher, 28, busted for sexual relations with 2 boys
A Texas teacher was caught having sexual relations with two underage students when one teen told his dad about the sex after learning the educator had gone on a “hike” at a secluded park with another boy, authorities say.
Haeli Wey, 28, was fired in October from Westlake High School in Austin and arrested this week on the felony charges for sex that began back in August, police said.
Wey had sex with that teen, a friend of her family, some 10 times after meeting at a student ministry program in June, court documents say. She cozied up enough with the boy that she was invited along to a family trip to Africa during the summer, the docs, obtained by the Austin American Stateman, reveal.
The sex began after the trip, usually at Wey’s Austin home or in her car, the teen told police. He used a condom, provided by his teacher, during their first tryst, he said.
Other encounters happened in Commons Ford Park and included oral sex and the exchange of nude pics, police said.
A second victim said he exchanged text messages with Wey beginning in September, culminating in a hike and hammock make-out session later that month.
The boy told cops Wey invited him to an after-school walk, also at Commons Ford Park, where the math teacher wrote she knew of “some secluded hiking trails,” documents show.
During the nature stroll, Wey “took out a hammock” and began to kiss the boy, who rubbed her breasts and put his hands on her crotch, the boy told authorities.
“Your Affiant then asked the victim if he was expected to have sex with Ms. Wey while on this hike,” the court documents read. “The victim stated yeah. When asked why he stated ‘a teacher just doesn’t hang out with a student to hang out.’”
The original victim said he stopped having sex with the teacher after learning of the hike with the other boy and then later told his father. When Wey learned police were investigating the relationship, she asked him “what did you tell them” and “why did you tell them,” according to the documents.
“Victim described Ms. Wey as ‘getting dramatic,” the papers read.
Wey, who worked at Westlake for two years before her firing, has been booked and released from jail on $150,000 bond. She faces two counts of improper relation between educator and student.
The school district announced the arrest in a letter to parents Thursday.
“I want to reinforce that this behavior is not tolerated in Eanes ISD,” Superintendent Tom Leonard wrote. “Inappropriate communication and relationships involving teachers and students is unacceptable and, as in this case, against the law. We trust that the justice system, with our continued cooperation, will reinforce this message.”
