Let's have a quick look at the ages of the top fighters he beat over his career.
Maia - 34
Munoz - 34
Anderson - 38
Machida - 36
Vitor - 38
Gastelum - 26
Weidman himself is now 35.
So he beat one top-tier fighter in his physical prime. And I'd like to remind people just how ridiculous the size advantage was in that fight:
So basically, excepting one fighter he was twice the size of, he didn't beat any other fighter that wasn't the same age or older than he was by the time he had already been KOd in 5/6 fights and washed out of the sport.
As good as we thought he was initially, we are going to have to accept that he was just in the right place at the right time to feast on the elderly.
