So my daughter made reservations last night for dinner with her boyfriend and 5 other couples for New Years eve. Spoke to the restaurant several times, yep not an issue, we have your party of 12 all set for 5 oclock.

My daughter gets there early and there is a sign on the door that says parties of 2-5 have 1.5 hours to eat, parties of 6 or more have 2 hours. The sign also mentions mother's day and local graduation only due to being busy but nothing about NYE.

So my daughter and her boyfriend get sat waiting for the rest of the table and she see a menu list in front of her. States it is 95 dollars a head. You have a choice of appetizer, soup, entrée and dessert. Drinks are extra.

None of this is mentioned during the reservation. They thought it was just the regular menu.

My daughter asks the waitress, is this all we can order and do we really only have 2 hours to finish everything? Server said yes, they do this on NYE.

So of course some of the couples are late and everyone finally arrive by 5:20. Appetizers get ordered, meals get ordered.

Appetizers come out at 6. Tick tock.

6:30 the server tells the table you have to be out by 7. My daughter said we haven't even gotten our meals yet. They will be right out.

6:45 meals finally come out, several of them were messed up but they just ate.

6:50 server comes up and says you have 10 minutes, what would you like for dessert and we will pack it to go for you.

7:00 they were basically kicked out. My daughter and her boyfriend paid 300 dollars alone not including tip. Everyone was so pissed that they just came back to our place and hung out with me and mama san instead of going to the bar to celebrate.

I told them all I would have just got up and left, none of that bullshit was disclosed during the reservation process or on their social media.

As a restaurant owner I can't imagine ever doing that to a guest. My daughter said that other tables were grumbling and shocked by it. They totally fucked themselves for any future business. I hope the money and pissed off people was worth it.

But I fed them drinks for a couple hours and they were able to finish their desserts.

Would you have just grin and bared it or noped the fuck out. I would have been gone in 2 minutes.

Like you, I would have politely told them to pound sand and went elsewhere...even if it was fucking Applebees. The "take it or leave it" attitude some businesses have is mind boggling.

I probably wouldn't think anything of it until I didn't get my food in a reasonable time and then I was rushing to finish my meal because of their slow service.

I would suggest asking a manager on video about the rules and ask him why this wasn't disclosed before hand. Then go post a yelp review providing a link to the video. People can judge for themselves if they think people are treated fairly there.

True, but I think if everyone knew it was 95 dollars a person with a set time limit that they would probably have chosen someplace else. A lot of the group was not expecting to spend that much and don't have a lot of disposable income. They were expecting to buy a dinner not forced to buy a soup/appetizer/dessert.

Both of my daughters would have pulled out their iphones and started recording the room as they were complaining.
And they would have walked out while talking with the guests about how f'd it is.
And they wouldn't have paid most likely.
Scratch that, most definitely.

Then I would have invited them over and told them to relax just like you did.
Then they would leave my place a disaster and perhaps burn it down accidentally.

lol, my daughter is feeling the same way. This was the text she sent me last night that started the conversation. I really need to talk to her about her language but she is her father's daughter.

Of course not. However, as I'm sure you know. Employees are retards. Person who took the reservations dropped the ball. Make a call and let them know of your experience. I'm sure you'd like to hear from a customer that lost your business and why if an employee wasn't doing their job.

Good point, I will pass that advice to my daughter. I just find it surprising because the owner has her signature on the bottom of the sign for the time limit.

Yes employees can screw up but for that big of a screw up on a huge night such as NYE I would be shocked if the owner wasn't aware.

Funny thing is my daughter literally grew up in our restaurant, we opened when she was 8. She knows what our level of expectation is and calls shit out when she sees it. Which is why I was shocked that she didn't just leave.

We were at chilis when she was about 11 years old and she asked the server to replace our appetizer plates because they were dirty. Server picked one up and said they look good to me. My daughter politely said look at the back, it was covered in guacamole.

Made me so proud I almost shed a tear.

What can I say, she's her father's daughter.

It sucks because they could have easily given the group of 12 an extra hour or so considering their main meals only came out during the 2nd hour.

2 hours is just not enough, there are a few places here that do that 2-hour thing but our crew has never been made to leave like this. We usually stay about 3 hours and then bounce to play pool or to a bar for drinks.

This is the only thing I don't miss about being young, older dumb people will always take shots at you for no reason when young.

The set menu should have been disclosed, but accidents happen it is what it is. I understand the time limit because, as I'm sure you're aware, they want to turn those tables. That being said, if they're kitchen is in the weeds and as a result the meals take 2 hours to be served, that's on the restaurant. I'd have told them "We'll be leaving when we're done."

As far as I'm concerned your daughter and her party (knowingly or not) entered into a business contract with the restaurant and the restaurant didn't fulfill it's obligations. Ergo, the restaurant can go fuck itself.

Also, I know just walking away sounds like the thing to do but it's New Years and everyone wants a nice meal so even thought it sounds simple it would probably silently piss off half the group.

This of course is expecting the kitchen could fullfil their end of the bargain in time. in this particular case they fucked up and the waitress was not on top of things either (food should never get there 15 minutes before getting kicked out)

When this situation (half the group getting there 20-30 minutes late) happens to us we immediately call the waiter over and make them order. at that point you are playing with fire if you wanna sit and chill and slowly start ordering drinks, its tick tock indeed.
