My old Mach Five is done. I have used it for something like 10 years. It’s been great. Years have gone by, though, and it’s now corroded and can barely snap in a new razor cartridge.

So what should I get. Are electric razors good? Are there new, better razors than my old one?

And don’t come at me with that shave club stuff. I know a Ponzi scheme when I see one.

Thanks in advance!

I recently made a move to the Phillips One Blade. I have thick Greek Fisherman style hair and I’ve never been able to use an electric razor before, they would miss bits and give me razor bumps. I can shave dry with this if I wanted. I still use shaving cream though because it does a better job.

Butterfly razor. It's old school and there's a learning curve during which you will undoubtedly cut yourself a few times, but at only $7 for 100 blades, you'll have way more money to spend on hookers and blow

Don’t listen to him. I’ve seen pictures, he looks like the “Duck Dynasty” brother you never saw on tv because the producers thought he wasn’t “camera ready”.
I keep the last razor I bought as a reminder. Hasn't been used in at least 7 years. Now I trim up the beard with hair clippers, no razors.

I did this for a while. Still have my double-bladed safety razor and boar's hair brush and everything like that. Felt very fancy with my warm lather and learning to shave all over again.

In the end the only thing I noticed was that I grew in a 5 oclock shadow faster than whenever I use a modern multibladed razor. It definitely never got me as close to a shave as I normally get. They looked the same after use but like I said didn't last as long so it definitely isn't as short.

The blades are super cheap like you say. I think I was spending $9 per hundred. I would ditch the blade after about 3 days because they were so cheap.

Old School double edge safety razor is the way to go. Get some quality shaving soap and a quality brush. Don't buy the aerosol foam or gel, its way inferior to most traditional soap/cream on the market.

You're going to cut yourself learning and it'll take awhile to get your technique right. Once you've mastered it, you won't buy another disposable again.

The upfront cost will be more expensive, if you buy a decent safety razor will last you a lifetime, you'll get a lot of years out of good brush as well. Blades are cheap the most you'll pay is about .50 for a blade but they can be as low as .07 - get a sample pack to find the right blade as each different brand has its own sharpness, aggressiveness and feel to it.

Or for extra man points jump straight into shaving with a straight razor, mind after a couple of weeks you'll have more scar tissue than a Diaz eyebrow.

DE safety for manual. MerkurHD is a good starting point.
Braun series 7/8/9 for electric.
Have a few minutes so want to elaborate

I pretty much always used disposable or Mach 3 until about 10 years ago. Decided I wanted to step it up, so started reading online. Settled on DE safety. For 5ish years all I used. Simple. Razors are cheap, so cheap I changed every shave just because. Good shaving cream/soap and a decent badger brush actually makes a better shave than the razor itself. But some days I just was lazy. So started researching electric. Braun 8 just came out, so the 7 got a huge price drop. I still use that as my every day shave. I get a new head as needed.

I think having both is best option. Quick shaves I go electric. Sometimes I feel like a good shave. Or have an event I need a BBS aka baby butt smooth shave.

when starting with a DE go with the grain the first couple times. Then go with gran, cross grain. Then can go with, cross, and against. Just my opinion.
