Been thinking about this.
I think the UFC is feeding the public a stack of shit 70 stories high, and tonight's statement was made to keep everyone that bought tickets and made travel arrangements, on board.
I don't think Mendes has been told he's fighting yet, because the UFC doesnt want to risk it being leaked...but he's been told to train like he's fighting on July 11th. Then sometime after July 4th (like Monday 7/5), the UFC will pull a bait & switch and announce that Aldo's ribs haven't healed like expected, he hasn't been able to train since the injury, and it's Mendes/McGregor in the co-main, for the interim title.
And speaking of an interim title...it's a joke that it will be on the line. Aldo will be healed in a couple of weeks, and will fight in October. There is no justification whatsoever for an interim title, other than them wanting McGregor to hold that belt, so it will be a unification fight when Aldo returns. They wouldn't do this for ANY other fighter, besides McGregor. And this is what makes anyone paying attention, not trust the UFC.
Back to UFC 189. I'm not buying that Aldo/McGregor happens.
