There is just so much shadiness with Romero. First you got his incredible phsyique and he's like almost 40, then he gets busted for PED's, but then they find his sup is tainted. Sure technically it was tainted, but I wonder if him and his team knew it was tainted going in and on purpose took it becauose of that reason.

I could be wrong, maybe he's clean but it just looks bad. You have the multiple fights where he stayed on his stool too long and they where pouring water all over him to make the ref wipe him down, stalling even more time.

Then you got his fight wtih Jacare, not sure if it was a robbery but Jacare won that fucking fight. All Romero had was a sequence in rd 1 where he rocked Jacare, rounds 2 and 3 where Jacare and Romero was hurt and fading bad.

Now you got this deal where he did not make weight. If you sign on the line to make 185 and you only get to 187.7 while your opponent is another huge MW who drains himself to 185, thats bs. People may doubt this, but I truly believe that if Romero did not cheat and actually cut that extra 2.7 lbs, he would never have had the energy to even have those explosive moments in round 3 to win the fight. Ask any fighter, especially guys like Luke and Romero who look like they are at 10% bf, not cutting the 2.7 lbs to get to 185 makes a huge, absolutely huge difference in your ability to replenish before the fight and fight well.

It goes even further, Luke was royally fucked over because they did not have early weigh ins, so Luke has to drain himself badly, and not get any iv's or extra weigh time they been doing the last year or 2. While Romero gets to half ass his weight cut and came in with full steam.

Sure you can say "Luke could have not taken the fight'. I am not having issue with Romero winning, I have issue with WME giving him a title shot after this bs.

If that was me as the promoter, I am sending a message. I am making Romero fight another fight for the right to fight Robert. If Robert is out to mid or late summer then I would even rematch him and Luke in May and if Romero is even a .5 lb over fights off.

You can't allow a guy to cheat, not cut weight properly, beat the guy that did cut weight properly, then give the cheater a gifted title shot.

WME needs to grow some balls, fuck this title shot bs for this cheater Romero. It's just bad karma.

I love the guy
but that is just me

IMO the whitaker fight was not enough to crown either fighter

I like belts to bass via finish, not decision

Who else is there at 185?

The way I look at it is honor and fairness. I don't care if the rest of the guys at 185 are God awful. You can't allow a guy to not make weight, win his fight and then get fight for the title. Can you really say Romero still wins if he cut that extra 2.7 lbs? I honestly believe he loses to Rochold and would habe lost by a tko finish to Luke if he did not cheat.

You think if Luke stopped his cut at 190 he would be the same last night? He would have had doulbe the energy and also been able to absorb the strikes better. You just cannot allow people to cheat like this and be rewarded.

How can it even be logically argued that Romero deserves a shot after this?

You can't say "but who else will fight then", that does not matter. You can't let how deep or non deep a division is dicate to how you are in terms of fairness.

Again, if Romero actually would have not cheated and cut to 185, I am telling you right now Luke would probably have beat his ass. DasRy

Ya not saying he deserves it due to no other big names/proven guys.

Just think Yoel Robert 1 was not decisive and Robert is the guy who could not fight for months after...unfinished business

As for PEd test and weight I agree not cool...was short notice though.

Luke cuts too much weight anyway IMO and yes he would have been stronger if he only went to 190...not sure if he wins though, yoel outstruck him rather brilliantly(body, body, thigh, head combo)

This is the UFC and many guys get to Cheat sadly (brock, jones, GSP(vaseline and weight vs Diaz))

185 is in an odd spot and the guys who have a claim are robert and yoel IMO

did you lose money?

U have good points and I see your argument.

But I do enjoy watching Yoel somehow murk everybody he fights in the 3rd round with crazy athletic explosions.

Who is left to fight? While I agree with you that he shouldn't be the guy fighting, but there's no one right now who makes sense here.

Jacare would be my pick, except Bobby just beat him (and while he had a phenomenal KO of Brunson, he needs one more fight before a title shot). Gastelum is similarly in the same boat, losing to Weidman hurt his stock... But the Bisping win puts him in a contender spot (I'm good with a Jacare vs Gastelum #1 contender bout). Weidman is one fight off a three fight skid, he needs to stay in his lane and win at least two more before asking for anything.

So if I'm match making....

Whittaker vs Romero for the belt

Jacare vs Gastelum #1 contender

Weidman vs Borrachinha

Brunson vs Rockhold

Ironically I won money on Yoel in parlays. I did about 11 parlays, small amounts. And I avoided Luke and Romero in most, cause it was such a tricky fight to pick. I had Luke in 2 parlays, those parlays conked out before Luke even fought due to Hunt losing. When Romero and Luke fought, I had 2 live parlays left and Romero was in each. But honestly, even though Romero won me money, I really wanted Luke to win even if it means losing the parlays.

I ended up putting in about 80 dollars in bets with the 11 parlays, the 2 parlays that won with Romero won me 115 bucks, so plus +35 in profit but again I would have rather ate the loss and had Luke won.

It all depends on how long Robert is out.

If Robert is coming back May or June, then put in Jacare vs Robert for the title. Sure Jacare got ko'd but at least he is not cheating and that will really get the point across to Romero and other fights that you need to make weight if you want title fights.

If Robert is out until July or August, then I would go

Romero in a rematch with Luke in May and winner gets the title fight. If Luke is still too fresh form the ko, then do a Romero vs Jacare rematch and winner fights Robert in August.

Most people thought Jacare won against Romero anways

This is how I would do it

I don't value any of the belts...they are more of a hinderance to the Sport IMO

so that is reflected in my opinions

I wish their was a yearly tourney in each weight class to crown a yearly champ...that would better represent the best fighter of that year IMO

I know who the baddest man is without needing to see a strap on the waist

A while back here I wrote a idea for annual tournaments in the UFC, I think that would be a great idea, and will cut back on the need for interim titles

You're right in that it depends on how long Whittaker is out, but I think Jacare-Romero in the mean time is a bad idea because:

1. Jacare may very well beat Romero

and

2. As you also pointed out, Jacare got worked by Whittaker. Romero at the very least had a close fight against Bobby.

While I think and have pointed out that Whittaker's bum knee made the Romero fight a lot closer than it would have been otherwise and that a healthy Whittaker finishes Romero in R3-4, that rematch is at the very least somewhat intriguing. Jacare-Whittaker 2 is not intriguing at all, sorry.

You also run the risk of one of those guys getting injured and being out when Whittaker does get healthy.

Then who does Robert fight? Weidman? Gastelum?

Let him fight Romero again so that another contender at 185 can hopefully emerge.

SensoriaUtopia @SensoriaUtopia Just noticed that you never mentioned Jacare-Romero.

Apologies. I have ADD and usually only read the first and last sentence of people's posts.

top 8 fight it out over the year and winner takes all and is yearly champ...top half get entry to next year and 4 new bloods enter

takes 3 wins in a year to be the yearly champ

eliminates ducking...if you get injured you aren't champ that year, get healthy and make a run at the next tourney

do this in every division and you have cards stacked with top guys, 3-4 fights of top ranked dudes per card

Yep, seemed kinda cheesy and the talent pool was kinda shallow

But I think it works if you have a reset each year and have lots of top talent

It would require a legit ranking system though

Not making excuses for him, but Jacare did have that pectoral tear he went into the Whittaker fight with... Not saying that the outcome wouldn't have been the same, but it definitely was a hindrance to him

Dumbass Aussie commision has not put that in yet
Every commission determines crap like that. It's really annoying that the promotion doesn't have more say in the rule set, scoring, and weigh-ins/weight classes. Just from a consistency sake it would be so much better. I want them to have zero influence on who refs which fight and who scores what fight but really do think it would be great for every UFC event to have the same conditions and every Bellator event to have the same conditions regardless of geography.

Did you see where the commission last night doesn't even make the scoring results public? You get a total number but no on knows who the judges were that scored and which rounds were score in which ways by them. Great way to protect bad judges from criticism.

Lol come on
No I actually had no idea prior to his fight that THAT was the issue, talking to him and his team during the seminar he did at our gym, they were telling us about his rehab and recovery... I'm surprised they took the fight, but I think it was because he needed the cash for his procedure

He had just signed a new contract prior to that fight, so maybe.

I don't see that fight going any differently though. He doesn't have the striking to even faze Whittaker, and Robert is too quick and elusive to get taken down and held there.

Yup, there needs to be an across the board standard. not this current deal where if you hold a fight in this state it goes by one set of rules and regs, and another state or counry different, that's just odd.

I would have enjoyed Luke's KO immeasurably more if almost anyone else had done the deed.

It definitely cheapens the experience because it's Yoel, but the fact that he didn't make weight when he did it means I don't even give a shit.

The only upside to Yoel winning the belt is that Dana's head would explode.
