the speakers that come built-in a tv are trash. in fact, the more expensive/thinner the tv then that increases the odds of the speakers being worse. they are thinner which leaves less room for speakers

I have always dealt with the shitty built-in speaks, little 10w pieces of shit type speakers

I recently upgraded. nothing crazy expensive or fancy. a soundbar, a subwoofer, and two rear speakers

Dudes and dudettes, it is most righteous. go ahead and make the move.

roll that beautiful bean footage with improved sound

Even the Google Home Mini is good. Spotifiy sent one as a freebie for being a customer for 10 years or so but it's pretty decent.

I don't know anything about audiophiles but bigger speakers definitely sound better. Don't need to spend a lot for improvement

Got a factory refurb Onkyo 7.1 HTIAB (home theater in-a-box) for under 200 bucks about 6 years ago. I don't mind the TV's speakers for news and stuff, but my shows and movies, surround sound always. I've heard great things about soundbar/sub combos, and I could imagine it being a world of difference compared to the TV speakers. But I don't know if I could go away from true surround sound again.

depends on your definition of Audiophile

Stock speakers are shit, getting worse and worse

When somebody plays me a song over their phone when near a real stereo system I give them the look

Soundbars are okay. Best to go with discrete amp and speakers.

Yes. Start with amp and 2 bookshelf speakers and build from there.

    $1,000 isn't entry level

It might not be high end but it is not entry level for the average consumer

That seems excessive seeing as it's almost triple what my TV is worth. I suppose more than double is probably more accurate.

I haven't. I need a good Bluetooth speaker but would probably opt for one that doesn't listen to me sing along.

To be fair, I've been told many times that "An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable" only to see "cheapest I could find" HDMI cables not work at all, where more expensive ones did.
