Why aren't you charging them? A favor?
So over the years we have done private parties for guests that have supported us since we opened. We have a large family in the area who's matriarch died in 2011. We shut down for 3 hours on a wed so the family could be together and eat together in between viewings. Wife and I took care of the whole bill.
Since we are closed on Sundays we just kind of kept doing it. But it was always just our regular menu. These are long time treasured guests/friends/neighbors. I told them just take care of the staff since they are coming in on their weekend off to do this.
When my neighbor passed last year I finally decided to start going off menu and it worked great.
So the wedding is for Fred and Artie. Fred and his husband Dan had been coming in since the day we opened. Dan passed away 4 years ago. The last time Dan was in he couldn't even get out of the booth. I basically carried him out to the car. I actually have a picture of Fred and Dan hanging on the wall next to that booth and it is Fred's table. Whenever he comes in that's where he sits so he can look at the picture.
Since Fred was retired and getting older he bought a winter home in Florida in a gay friendly community.
There he met Artie and they got married New Years Eve this year. None of the family was there for it though. So they came up in January for a visit and Fred asked me where I would recommend to have renewal of vows ceremony so all his family could celebrate with them. I said there really isn't any place in the area but hey, if you want to do it here at the restaurant I would be honored to. Just pay for the cost of the food I make and take care of the staff, I will be good with that. I think the total food bill will be around 800 dollars.
It will be a cash bar though so I will get some sales from that.
So that's what we are doing.
Menu
Teres Major Medallions
Baby back ribs
Teriyaki potatoes with green pepper and onions
Shrimp Cocktail
Street corn
Salad
Corn Dip with chips
Veggie tray
Cheese and Cracker Tray
Chips and Salsa
Hot dogs for kiddos
Blueberry Apple Crisp and Strawberry Apple Crisp for dessert
I might throw in some pulled pork as well.
The Teres major is the most expensive thing, then the ribs, the rest isn't much
Now I need to go start cutting and trimming 40 lbs of Teres
And yes, I see the humor that I am hosting a gay wedding is not lost on all of you.
