Will BJ Penn actually fight again?

That remains to be seen, but "The Prodigy" appears to be taking the necessary steps towards that accomplishing goal.

Penn met with legendary MMA coach Greg Jackson Tuesday in Albuquerque to discuss joining the JacksonWink team.

"I'm pleased with how the meeting went and very optimistic about the future," Jackson told MMAFighitng.com. "BJ doesn't have any specific fight plans, but we have [our own] plans."

Jackson added that Penn will remain in Albuquerque "for a while" to train with the team.

I would love to know how this all came about. Respect to BJ for finally deciding to push himself in a legit camp at age 37. Maybe an ole dog can be taught some new tricks...we shall see.

I'd rather BJ stay retired. He has nothing left to prove. He isn't going to be the champ. He got out without brain damage. He should stay retired. I'd like to seem him do something like Metamoris or some other grappling matches.

I'm with you on the CTE, but c'mon homie...You wouldn't love to see B.J. vs. Aldo?

I don't see BJ getting that fight :( Only if it's Aldo's first fight back. Otherwise Aldo will be on track to get a rematch and although he's a worthy opponent, he isn't a guy you beat on the way to get your belt back anymore

I agree, he doesn't have anything to prove. BJ is a legend and all time great. However, he probably feels like he has something to prove to himself. Nobody wants to go out the way he went out, especially a monster like him. He wants to prove that he can still compete. Win a belt, maybe not at his age, but he's still a handful for most guys in the lower weight classes. I would also love to see him at Metamoris and/or EBI. If he is set on doing MMA I just hope he does it at less than 170.

Yes BJ is 37 but he could be a great asset to JW, people look up to him for what he has done in his career. Toughness and his skill will rub off on everyone at that gym.

prodigy returns......

BJ has been my favorite fighter for a long time, but I promise that has nothing to do with what I'm about to say. This is strictly objective.

If anyone could have a Lawler-esque career resurgence simply by changing camps, it's BJ. He's got so much natural talent that if he has someone to push him into getting in great shape and then look at what talents he's got left, which is still more natural talent than most fighters have in their prime, and use that info to make intelligent game plans, he could seriously revive his career. Jackson-Winklejohn is the absolute best camp for BJ. If he'd put the GSP shit aside and went there after they fought the second time, he might have had the LW title much longer.

Now, from a BJ fan's standpoint, I hope he either dedicates himself 100% to a comeback or stays retired.

Huh? They're both Nova Uniao, so that will never happen....UNLESS...it's for the belt, which is one hell of a hypothetical at this point. Greg Jackson is smart, and I think that when everything is said and and done, BJ will be back at 155. He's only stubbornly holding on to 145 because of the whole Brolce fiasco. Either way I think Lentz is on the short list of guys he'd be matched up with immediately, but who else? It sucks that Melendez is currently suspended.

Absolutely agree. Diaz vs BJ maybe?
