Saddened to learn that legendary Norwegian knockout artist @JoachimHansen had to retire from #MMA after suffering a stroke last month.

9:12 AM - 28 Dec 2016

The 37-year-old lightweight made his debut in November 1999 at Finn Fight 3 and became a big star in Japan, including in Shooto and Dream where he became champion. Hansen fought several fights in Pride and met some of the world's best lightweights. One of his finest wins came against the then-top-ranked grapplingsesset, Shinya Aoki , Hansen defeated via TKO in July 2008.

Hansen has only gone four games the past five years, where he lost three of them, two of which were by knockouts.

I think he's right up there as a top 10 lightweight of all-time. He never got the recognition he deserved because he never fought in the UFC.

I didn't realize he had a stroke. Hopefully life after fighting is good to the dude.

I looked him up not all that long ago. I used to like watching his fights. It sucks that his career ended like this.

I always enjoyed Hellboy. He was very entertaining. I haven't heard his name in so long. I thought he retired several years ago. Sucks to hear about a stroke. I hope he recovers well and I hope he made enough money from fighting/sponsors that he can walk away and not have to worry about finances.
