Lol, I've always wondered what it must be like at the end of the night when Joe has hugged like 12 different sweaty dudes coming off a hard fight. His suits must smell awful.

This is the first time I've seen him straight up reject that shit. Cold shoulder. But can you blame him?!

And shout out to Swayze @Swayze , lol I'd be laughing too.

You can tell Joe trains as he immediately went for bicep control.

I don't know what it is about Joe Silva, but something about the guys screams "I can't be trusted".

Yea, of all the Zuffa higher-ups he is the one that gives me the worst vibe.

I love Joe Silva honestly. He was around since UFC 2. The only guy still there from the old days. He has made som questionable matchups over the years. BUT, he is the only employee for example who doesn't live in Vegas. Lives in Virginia. And was around from an early tim when t was so new and he was never n it for the money.l He was a gigantic nerd over this stuff and proved his worth by doing fantasy matchups and shit that they actually implemented. He foresaw a lot of things in this sport that later came to fruiiiiiiiiiiiition after he pushed for it.

He started as a super fan of the sport. He would send SEG letters on how he thought they could make better matchups who was gonna win what, etc. He really helped the sport a lot. I know what you guys mean about Zuffa, but Joe's job has always been pretty strictly business. Without him the entire landscape would be very diff today. He's a humble dude who rarely gives interviews, BUT, most importantly... He fucking loves fights. Probably more than anyone. I respct him. When hearing his rare interviews he always seems to come off humble. Also most fghters like him.

People like Dana for example.. Totally diff kind of person. Complete idiot...lol Don't think anyone needs that explained : P

And this is why you should stop the nonsense about not posting FRATS. Because you just educated the shit out of me. I had no idea what Joe's background was, and this makes me see him in a different light. Sounds like an e-apology from me is in order.

I just don't like the urban trend of man hugging, in that males hug other males that are not close family members, it not being a birthday or a funeral.
If a man tried to hug me that was'nt my father or son, I would automatically assume they wanted sexual relations with me, that or reach around for my wallet.
Either way its offensive in a public place, leave that for later in the lockerroom.

But what if the lights were off? There is no way it's gay if the lights are off. You could be a woman...how could I know?

Eye contact plays a big part in man hugging too.

Informative post Galanis.

I knew Joe was around in the UFC Seg days, but little tidbits about him not living in Vegas, hwo he sent SEG letters, that's interesting stuff that makes me view him in a little bit different and better light. Didn't have anything against him before reading this, but he seems more like "one of us" in terms of a fan now that I'm informed.

There's a really good article somewhere with details about how he started out and got the job officially as matchmaker. I'll see if I can track it down. Silva's story is terrific, kind of an American dream in that he does exactly what he loves to do for a living.

Not really what I was thinking of, but this is a very good article on Silva and Shelby, the other UFC matchmaker.

An excerpt:

Silva’s something of a special relic in the UFC. He’s one of the few employees who worked for the company back when it was owned by SEG, before Zuffa bought it in 2001. Before that, he was a manager for a software retailer, but really, he said, “I didn’t care what I did as long as I could do martial arts and hang out with my friends.”

He loved the first UFC but saw problems on the horizon. When SEG took out an ad in “Black Belt Magazine” that included the office phone number, he called it just hoping to share what he thought was good advice.

“I didn’t think I’d get a job out of it or anything,” Silva said. “I just said, ‘Hey, I love this [stuff], but here’s the problems you’re going to have.'”

And they listened to him. Silva became a kind of an unofficial advisor, then an official employee. The problem was, SEG didn’t pay very well. He went into debt just from holding onto the job. When Zuffa bought the company, Silva was one of the few employees who came highly recommended to the new owners. They wanted him to relocate to Vegas, which he did for a short time.

“I hated it there,” Silva said. “But I thought, this is my chance to get out of debt.”

“What people don’t understand is, it’s not like I could just remove Chad from the card and say, ‘Sorry, I can get you a fight four months from now,'” Shelby said. “We understand. You spent money on a camp. You’ve got bills to pay. We will do our best to find you a fight. I bend over backward to keep guys in fights, to keep the machine moving. You have to.”

Get Sarah "Cheesecake" Moras @Sarah "Cheesecake" Moras a fucking fight then.

Joe Silva rarely gives any kinda at length interviews n the last 10 years

BUT, back in 2001 he went on Dave Meltzer's radio show like 3 times. Right around the Zuffa purchase. They are some really great interviews where they talk PRIDE, the introduction of weight classes in th UFC, and tons of other awesom sht

checked youtube but I don't se anythng on there. If you guys are interested I can upload em. Really cool considering there are just about zero intevews with him out there now. Especally not hour + length ones.

Honestly the UFC has WAYYYYY too many fighters under contract. t's fuckng ridiculous.

Think about this. in 2010 they had like 270 guys. In 2015, they had 550+.RIDICULOUS. 52 events a year and they STILL can't get enough guys fights.

I just wish things were a little different. If they're gonna over saturate the fuck out of everything and sign EVERY SINGLE FIGHTER out there.. Then hey, put on 80 events a year. Fuck 50. If that's how they are gonna d things, they NEED to get these fighters in the cage. Period.
