“I think I’ve got to take a step back and refocus,” he told Olivi. “It might be a month, two months, three months... Hell, I don’t know—decide if I want to fight or not. I love fighting. To get in that octagon makes me so happy, but to perform like that...

“I’m an idiot in that fight, is what it really boils down to. I’m an idiot in that fight and I go out there and look like shit. Do I still want to fight? Because that fight right there shows me that I don’t—but I do. What do I have to do to get that fire back? I don’t know. It’s disappointing when I know I could’ve won, I should’ve won, and I go out there and look like a pathetic newborn. We’ll see what’s next.”

He's being honest at least. Hopefully he does find that fire. A motivated Johny Hendricks is a scary and exciting dude.

Nothing wrong with a little re-evaluation. As an observer, it does look like he knows what's up and is being objective about it. More power to him to get what he wants out of life.

Johny usually says the right things, its a problem with sticking to his analysis that he has..seriously, he was saying he had problems with his weight himself, yet he missed weight I don't even know how many times now...even at 200..I don't have too much hope for him making the necessary adjustments, but, if he does, more power to him.

Johny's never been the same since he started serving bagged salad at his ill-fated steakhouse

I want him to fight Woodley if Lawler wins. I've wanted to see Tyron and Johnny go at it for awhile and it came so close to happening. Rebook it Ari!

Big Rig needs the UFC to hire Askren, to get that fire back. Might happen with new owners. o_O
He is done, he needs to go fight guys with 0-1 records to seeif he still has it, sadly i have the 0-1 guys winning 8 out of 10 times.

Nah. He NEVER says the right things.
  • I was only going 70% - vs GSP
  • I thought I did enough to win - vs Lawler
  • He didn't want to come forward & fight me - vs Wonderboy
  • I don't like fighting in Vegas - vs Gastellum
I can't think of a more unlikeable recent champion...
Thank GSP for USADA....

yeah I see your point, I meant when he's reflecting though. The post fight book of excuses is huge.

What he says makes sense. I must be honest to say since he last knocked a dude out he hasnt had that fire. Since the title certainly.

A non MMA fan friend of mine randomly became a MASSIVE fan of Bigg Rigg. Fine. So he came to watch his fights including the GSP fight and all others, he'd watched the KO highlights, the super energetic bouncing around Hendricks that genuinely looked like the new welterweight style we hadnt seen before. And every fight when we sat at 530am or around then h would say.... is this the right guy... He just hasnt quite lived up to that finish rate and style he set down. Shame, because the Hendricks who fucked up dudes was scary as balls. The new one has looked old before his time and not scary in the least bit. More scared.

If he is questioning if he wants to fight anymore then it's over.

It's like a relationship, the moment you aren't sure if you want to be with someone then it's time to get the fuck out.

Maybe they are going to hire Askren and he is ducking him like he did when they were wrestlers. I get the feeling Hendricks wants no part of Funky Ben.

Johny doesn't strike me as the type of fighter who should be running his own training camp. Him leaving Team Takedown was a huge mistake that he's now paying for.
I Completely agree with this. Since Mark Lehman and crew came down hard on Bigg Rigg for coming into camp out of shape and overweight, telling him he was wasting to much time trying to get in shape rather than developing new skills. Johnny was offended, as he knows best, left and started doing his own training, hiring coaches that are more "yes men" than anything else. Hendricks does need to rethink things, go back to Team Takedown, stay in shape and listen to his coaches (which actually make effective game plans for fights). Otherwise he is going to end up like Koschek. Pretty much the same story, Had WW title fight, has arguement with coaches, leaves, starts own gym, goes on big losing streak until he's out of the UFC..... Then blames them for his failings.

Hendricks still has a chance at turning himself around. If he lets go of his ego, stops making excuses and goes back to Team Takedown or some other place and starts doing what his coaches say.... And lays off the BBQ and Beer.

Didn't everyone else see his absurd reaction when Kelvin was announced the winner? The guy is the most delusional combat athlete I've ever seen. If he's taking a step back then he will give himself free license to eat whatever he wants, so he will be around 280 lbs after his Labor Day BBQ.

It was hilarious when he co-hosted Inside MMA long ago and asked DFW about a "Superfight" with Weidman. :)

Maybe he's gonna sit back a while and see how the new owners handle the UFC funding all the drug testing. If USADA goes away, he may be right back in title contention.
