Jon Jones has some work to do this weekend. But, if things break right and the former light heavyweight champion emerges unscathed from UFC 197, he would be more than happy to return at UFC 200.

"Absolutely," Jones said Wednesday. "I'd totally step in to UFC [200] and fill in that main event."

Jones is widely considered to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. The 28-year-old was initially slated to fight UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier on April 23 at UFC 197, however a foot injury forced Cormier out of the contest and Ovince Saint Preux stepped up on short notice to vie for an interim UFC title.

Key word: injured, which Cormier never was.

But like the GOAT, I too understand why DC didn't want to take the fight if he isn't 100% confident in his preparation.
"I was in practice sparring," Cormier said. "And I kicked one of my partners [with an] inside low kick and he checked it. And I fell down, and I was ‘ahh, that was painful,' and Bob Cookwas laughing. We get kick checked all the time. Sometimes you bruise your shin, and in a couple days it passes."

After a weekend of no improvements, Cormier received the bad news from his doctor.

"I imagined by Monday it would be better, but it hadn't gotten better, so I'm like ‘what if I broke the leg? I should probably get it x-rayed," Cormier said. "So I got the X-ray and there wasn't a break, but the doctor said ‘we should get an MRI, there may be some bleeding' when they took the MRI they found a torn a ligament in my leg, ... it's the ligament that connects the two bones in my leg, it's the ligament that kind of makes them work together. I took rest of the week, I tried to spar, really had no lateral movement, couldn't run, couldn't wrestle, couldn't grapple, can't kick, so it was just not looking good."

With the extent of his injury confirmed, Cormier and his team approached Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta, both of whom wanted him to sit out UFC 197, much to Cormier's surprise.

Hurt or injured it seems the decision was collectively made by those who matter more. If Jones gets it you should try to as well.

La Paix @BirdWatcher if it were any other fighter, DC would still be on the card.

But like I said, I DO get it. Jon is not only the best fighter in the world, he's a guy who soundly beat DC just over a year ago. I can understand why DC needs a little more time and a few more ice packs.

What other fighters could it have been? AJ got finished and Gus lost a good UD. We both know we are posting here because it's something new and not Conor related. Jon pulled out of the first fight and DC pulled out of this one. Neither of these guys are scared or ducking and they are definetly the two best LHWa out there and Jon will most likely win. Is DC a paper champ? Sure but that's on Jon.

Wild @Wild how the hell is calling DC a paper champ fighter bashing? I'm not attacking him, and a fellow admin agreed, in this very thread, that he's a paper champ

Borderline to be honest, and I probably should have left it up. But it's kind of silly too. DC earned the belt...no his fault Jones was being a knucklehead. You're probably right though, about me being trigger happy on that one.

Regardless we treat all reports seriously as you know so we will be discussing yet another infraction on your record.

And when I agreed it was like when my 5 year old keeps telling me how jumped his bike 10' the other day "You sure did lil buddy, keep at it..."

Someone trying really hard to get my attention (I've been ignoring him for a long time) probably reported it.

But all bullshit aside, fighter bashing is one thing I just don't do.

You should absolutely discuss it. Read my post above about the guy stalking me as well. I hope that's taken into consideration.

Don't try to weasel out of it now.

Would you call him a paper champion to his face?
Of course I wouldn't. I wouldn't say that GSP is a point fighter to his face either. Or that Fedor is overrated to his face.

Doesn't make any of that fighter bashing though.
