It has been a busy week when it comes to mixed martial arts retirements.

First it was Rashad Evans, then Johny Hendricks hung up the gloves, and now former UFC welterweight star Josh Koscheck is stepping away from the sport for good.

Koscheck announced his retirement on The Luke Thomas Show on SiriusXM Thursday afternoon.

After a collegiate wrestling career that saw him win a Division 1 championship out of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Koscheck transitioned to MMA where he made his professional debut in 2004. Koscheck got his big break by being a cast member on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005. Although he didn’t win the show, the Waynesburg, Penn., native had an impressive showing and gained a strong following.

I always enjoyed his fights. Fun to see him evolve from a pure wrestler on tuf to a championship level fighter.

Happy trails. I think hes kind of a dick but I also think he may be the most improved fighter ever from his beginning on TUF.

He was 15-4 heading into that fight with GSP, with 2 decision losses, 1 loss to submission, and 1 loss to KO. He went 2-6 after, losing 6 straight and being finished in his last 5. Georges jabbed years off of his career. Too bad he didn't have anyone in his corner who would throw in the towel for him.

I still laugh thinking about his prefight interview where he incredulously asks "GSP is going to out wrestle me?"

Most people i know hated him, but Kos was one of my favorites back in the day. I honestly thought he retired a long time ago. He seemed like a guy who had other things lined up outside of the cage. Hopefully he enjoys the next chapter of life.

I thought he'd retired quite a while back, to be honest.
Same here. Guess this is just the official announcement but he's been done for a while now. He owns a few successful businesses and doesn't need to fight from what I understand.

Just looked at his record. Six straight losses and hasn't won since early 2012. Yeah, time to hang 'em up.

I was thinking the Hendricks fight us what shot him. That fight had such heavy shots, from both fighters. Awesome fight.

I think I'll have to re watch that, kind of reminded me of Tyson Griffin vs. Sean Sherk iirc.

Long time coming for Koscheck, he hadn't looked good in awhile.
Seeing him getting choked out by Ellenberger a few years ago I thought "that's it".
Wish him well.

Sometimes you get those wrestler vs wester matches that trigger stand up fighting. This was one of those if I remember correctly. My takeaway from the fight that stuck with me is how hard koscheck punches. I never considered him as a power puncher, but after watching that fight it changed my mind. Having said that, it might be the only fight in his career that he displayed that power in more than one exchange.

WOW I thought he retired years ago.
But on the other hand... Some old fighters still have fight left on their contracts and are not really retired.
IIRC Rich Franklin still has a UFC fight left on his contract and he did talk about taking a fight 1-2 years back.
He was at the time VP at ONE FC.
So I guess its similar here, been retired for years but just not announced it.

Did not know Johnny was retired.. MAN he will get fat. :-(

Rich has announced it btw

After teasing the possibility of one more MMA fight before calling it quits, Franklin instead announced his retirement on September 28, 2015

Dammit I am old :(
F U for reminding me. I know he talked about a last fight, and it was while being with ONE.

Good choice. But it's a shame most of these guys have to go on huge losing streaks and get the shit kicked out of them so many times before they realize they don't have it anymore.

He went to Bellator and was finished in what should have been a tune up fight last year. Hasn't fought since.

I always liked Josh because he embraced the fact that people didn't like him and it made him a lot of money. What really made me like him though was when I realized just how smart he was being with that money. Invested in real estate, an airplane business, etc.

Now he's doing government contract work making solid income doing courses on business and leadership on military bases.

I applaud him listening to his management and making the most out of his opportunities.
