Why is this guy such a reoccurring guest? Usually makes 2 to 3 appearances a year.

Go back to the Edward Snowden podcast and watch his cadence of speech and mannerisms.

After careful analysis and about 15 beers later I have come to the conclusion Mike Baker was portraying the deep fake Snowden.

that is all I have for now...Ta-Ta!

People like Baker because he makes them feel like they're getting a peek behind the curtain. It's his stock & trade.

When he talks about his kids and family it always reminds me of Redfords character in Spy Games where he's always talking about his ex wives but you find out he'd never been married. Layers of ongoing cover that provide white noise over what he's really doing.

Yep
He never really says anything, just kind of spins and deflects and occasionally reinforces some government narrative

I'll occasionally listen to his daily brief pod on the way home from work. Short and informative.

I think he does a decent job when he's on JRE.

Haha I think the same thing!

just trying to connect and portray he's just a normal average guy living a simple middle class life.

Bingo, I remember him going on O&A back in the day with largely the same formula.

Andrew Bustamante basically stole Baker's cold war spy games gimmick & gave it a modern coat of paint. Both of them speak a lot without ever really saying much.
