Even in defeat, Conor McGregor managed to come off as an asset to the sport following Saturday night’s main event against Nate Diaz.

McGregor said he would take the loss "on the chin," but that he would be back. He held his head high and answered every question directed at him. And in the end, he lived by his word of being "humble in victory or defeat."

Same goes for his coach at SBG Ireland, John Kavanagh, who was a guest on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. Kavanagh reiterated McGregor’s words about picking himself up and moving on. Yet when asked what the next move would be for the Irish firebrand — who is just a couple of years has become one the UFC’s most marketable stars — he said he wasn’t sure just yet.

"There’s a few offers there," he told Ariel Helwani. "That’s really for Conor to decide, I’m really just the guy in the background. Whatever he says I’m happy to get ready for. We spoke to someone before that he seems to have this weird genetics that he can look great at 170 and he can make 145. It’s just a weird body type, I’m not sure how it works. But he can, and he always looks a bit scary on the scales, no doubt about it. But then you see him the next day and he looks fine. He has that ability to compete at 145, 155 or 170 I think. "

"I’ll be curious to see what the fans want. Because at the end of the day that’s what we’re doing it for, is the fans. It’s entertainment, and let’s see what the fans think is the most interesting thing for him to do next and we’ll prepare and do our best."

Asked if it were up to him, whom would he like Conor to face, Kavanagh said perhaps the Brazilian was the best option.

"Me personally, maybe the Aldo rematch, I’d like to see that again," he said. "I just think the first one was great for us, but it was a little bit unfulfilling…a little bit. I think Aldo has a fantastic set of skills, he was a great champion and I didn’t think that quite closed the chapter on that. So, [let’s] see a proper fight.

"I think stylistically it would be a very nice fight to watch and a very good challenge. So that’s my personal opinion, but like I said, I’m not the decision-maker on that."

Translation: "Unless you're retarded, it's pretty obvious Conor can't grapple for shit, and we'd rather not fight Frankie Edgar. Ever."

It's what Aldo wants, it's what the UFC wants, and now McGregor. Tough break for Edgar. I think he should've been the first in line.

Nothing's signed yet. Hopefully Frankie gets the shot

well ... Aldo handled it (Edgar's relentless cardio) and Conor only needed a few breaths in his fight with Aldo.

and I think Kavanagh said what a lot of us felt when it happened ... WOW ..... BUT NOT LIKE THIS!! :( hehe

more favorable match ups, what a surprise. Conor beat Aldo already, fight Edgar and Mendes with a full camp. Conor needs to prove that he is the best FW without a question. After Aldo will he want another favorable match up vs Holloway?? Come on Conor i gave you props for taking that fight vs Diaz, but fight the man who deserves the title shot in Frankie.

MMA math, brilliant stuff. Works so well like the time Mendes struggled to takedown Aldo, so Mendes struggled to takedown Conor, oh wait.....

Why do people who just saw Conor lose want to see him lose so bad again?

Plus Aldo should get a rematch anyway, that was such a quick fight.

its about getting Conor the most favorable/winnable fights. Instead of trying to prove that Conor is the best FW without a shout of a doubt. if they give him Aldo again, i wanna see Conor fight Holloway and then Cub, then maybe Siver.

isn't being the champ defending your belt vs the best and proving you are the best. RDA defended his belt vs Cowboy who at the time deserved the Title Shot. Right now Edgar is the man who deserves it, Aldo lost in 13 seconds. Conor is already a huge star no need to keep him away from wrestlers, now is the time to say " im the champ bring on whoever" but Conor wanted Aldo at the post fight press conference. Untill he beats Edgar or a full camp Mendes the question will still be there for Conor to answer.

Eddie Bravo said Conor has been to his bjj academy and he's actually pretty good.
yes, but how good is your grappling when your in the 3rd or 4th round vs Edgar and is punching you on the ground and doing damage? or Maybe Conor easily stuffs all Edgars take downs and finishes him, thats the main reason i wanna watch. i just wanna see if he can prove he is the best FW and then we cant question the matchmaking. When he says along the lines " I will fight anybody" and then you chose Nate over Khabib. And now it sounds like he is picking Aldo over Edgar it doesnt sound like "I will fight anybody".

I was simply responding to the comment that conor can't grapple.

apparently, 3 months ago, he hadn't read up on weird genetics yet... Dana White: Conor McGregor gets immediate title shot with move to lightweight
“(McGregor’s coach) John Kavanagh said in the octagon he’ll never make 145 again. He said, ‘I don’t want him making that weight again; it’s not good for him,'”

mmmhmm. all fun and games til ya don't get the W. . guess 145 isn't so bad for conor after all, and by weird genetics, he must mean inefficient above 145 pounds.

He has the belt, he took it from Aldo, that means right now, he is the best no matter how much spin you put on it you slick devil you :).

This reasening is really disregarding how good Aldo is. He (Conor) did not fight bums to get that belt, let's not forget. We easily discredit one's accomplishments after the fact. Aldo, Holloway (yes even then), Poirer, Mendez, are legitimate fighters.

Edgar has a good chance, it is a fight I would like to see before an Aldo fight, I agree with that though. But then again, maybe Aldo makes sense because he would still own Edgar, or Mendez, or whoever steps up. I just wish he'd wait a year to come back.

Aldo, Holloway (yes even then), Poirer, Mendez(*short camp*)Mendez , are legitimate fighters. ;)

a One week camp/Injured Edgar would've also been a legit win. just like if Conor had a 1 week camp vs an opponent( would've be a legit win over).

I don't know how people can still root for this guy after saying stuff like "i will fight anybody" and then wanting an Aldo rematch.

Are you also favoring a rematch with Siver? Conor is focken awesome ey, I should just get a chest tattoo Gazelle smoking a Gorilla.

No, no rematch is needed. He beat them all soundly. Edgar would make sense. But is that the number one guy really? or Aldo? Who would win?

If Aldo would have rested up for a year, it would all fall into place. But Aldo has made known that he wants that match now. So bitch about him. he calls the shots right now, he deserves his rematch.

And as for short camp talk, if you sign that contract, you have acknowledged that you were ready to go in that cage. That is how that works. All talk after is just talk. Like you are doing.
