Two, now ex, day care workers are facing jail time for orchestrating and perpetrating a “fight club” at a New Jersey day care — amongst the children.
Police say Erica Kenny, 22, and Chanese White, 28, were caught instigating kiddies fights amongst children between the ages of 4 and 6 attending Lightbridge Academy. It is alleged that Erica apparently recorded a few of the fights and shared them with friends and of course social media.
According to prosecutors, “Approximately a dozen boys and girls at the day care center can be seen in the video clips shoving each other to the ground and attempting to strike each other.” They go on to say, “In the video clips, Kenny can be heard referencing the activity as ‘Fight Club’ — quoting from the book and movie of the same name in encouraging the children to engage each other physically.”
Parents are obviously angered by the incident:
“It’s making me freak out. I am concerned,” one mom with a 3-year-old at the center told The Post. “I’m shocked and disgusted.”
What angered parents more was how the center handled the incident. Parents received an email from the center on August 17 and it looked like they tried to sugar coat what was actually going on.
According to the NY Post, the email described the situation as employees “allowed, and at times, encouraged the children in the Khaki Kangaroo and Brown Bear classrooms to push and shove each other on the playground.” They describe the incident as isolated.
A woman who decided to pull her son out of the program after only three weeks said, “I am so sad for all the parents who had children involved. I hope these awful people get what they deserve.”
Fortunately, none of the children suffered serious injuries. Supposedly the center officials learned of the allegations mid-August when they suspended the pair. They were terminated shortly after.
Erica and Chanese have so far been charged with child abuse. Erica is also facing child endangerment charges stemming from the recorded videos. Their arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
