With the recent growing tension around the Korean Peninsula involving North and South Korea, the US, and China, history is about to repeat itself of almost 70 years ago, but with a little bit of a twist.
After Korean War kicked off in the 1950 from Nov 27 - Dec13, battle for the Frozen Chosin in North Korea happened and has gone down in the history as battle fought in the most extreme conditions / circumstances for the U.S. forces in a foreign land. After a successful landing in Inchon to cut off N.Korean supply lines, General MacArthur decided to push US troops into North Korea to take over and end the war except Chinese got involved. The end result: more than 5,000 killed or missing from the US and around 25,000 estimated casualties from the Chinese. Whatever the outcome, what all these people (US troops, Chinese troops, the North Korean civilians) had gone through was amazing and humbling.
In Marine Corps history, Battle of the Chosin Reservoir is comparable to the Battles like the Iwo Jima or Belleau Wood. The sad thing is that nobody gives a shit for it was only 5 years after World War 2 has ended. The Korean War itself is known as the "Forgotten War." The Korean war was nothing but the first battlefield of the Cold War.
