Sportsman arrested over alleged sex assault in Dublin
A sportsman has been questioned and released after being arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Dublin last month.

He was arrested by appointment at Dundrum Garda station on Thursday night. Gardaí also took DNA samples from the man with his consent.

The alleged assault happened on the night of December 9th or early the next morning, when a complaint was made to gardaí. The woman has since made a formal statement to investigators, on foot of which the man was arrested.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 before being released without charge. A file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and the investigation is ongoing.

It is understood gardaí were initially alerted to the alleged rape when an acquaintance of the woman made a complaint. They visited the woman and spoke to her informally and she was taken to a sexual assault treatment unit where forensic samples were taken.

The woman initially did not make a formal statement of complaint to gardaí but was co-operating with and speaking to investigators.

However she recently met gardaí and made a full statement alleging sexual assault. She also told gardaí she had been physically assaulted by the male.

After becoming aware of the allegations last month the sportsman told gardaí, through his solicitor, that he was willing to be interviewed. However investigators required a statement of complaint from the alleged victim before they could move forward.

Once that complaint was received they contacted the man’s solicitor and asked him to attend at Dundrum Garda Station where he was arrested and questioned on Thursday. The man’s solicitor accompanied him at all times.
File sent to DPP over alleged sexual assault in Dublin

A man who was arrested yesterday in connection with an alleged sexual assault at a hotel in Dublin last month has been released.

A woman made a complaint to gardaí and the man is understood to have presented himself at a south Dublin garda station yesterday evening.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Sources inside of RTE say this is Conor McGregor.

Irish Law doesn't allow posting accused in the news.

It is only a leaked ACCUSATION not a conviction.

Wow. A few questioned it when the news first broke, but it would be crazy if it really it turned out to be him. Be interesting to see how this one plays out.

My take: It's only an accusation, though it doesn't bode well that there's a witness first, then a corroboration, then enough for an arrest. But assuming its a false allegation.... what the fuck "one of the highest paid sports athletes"!? Stop partying and go home. Nothing good can come of it when you're on top in the sports game.

If it is true, well...Matt Serra.jpg of course.

Not a fan of of his bs but hopefully it is not true, for both his(and his family) and the accusers sake.

I have no problem whatsoever believing this. That said, he is afforded the same presumption of innocence as anyone else, until proven guilty.

This from December when it was first out. The Sun is the only one to go as far to point out they are not a footballer.

Sports star accused of Dublin rape was 'on two-day bender' before alleged attack

Gardai have launched a major investigation after a woman, in her 20s, claimed she was attacked and battered by the sportsman in a Dublin hotel.

Officers are set to interview the alleged victim to establish the facts before deciding how to proceed with the probe.

The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Monday, between midnight and 2am, at a hotel in the capital’s southside.

It’s believed the alleged victim had been out socialising with a group of friends beforehand.

The rape claim is considered credible by garda investigators.

The woman was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit at Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital.

The Irish Sun can also reveal the sports star was previously accused of attacking another woman in recent months at a separate venue.

The athlete, who is not a footballer, has yet to be interviewed, but it’s understood that could happen as soon as this week.

Nor has the alleged victim, who’s from Dublin, yet provided a statement.

Sources said the woman was terrified of making an official statement.

There are claims that she was left with bruising after the alleged attack, while there were also suggestions of bleeding.

The case is being investigated by detectives at Pearse Street Garda Station.

The complainant initially spoke to officers at another cop shop, but it was handed over to Pearse Street due to the location of the alleged attack.

No arrests have been made.
Various news continue with the same timeline and story. Victim didn't want to come forward. Then investigation started. So whoever it is, sounds like they have a trend of accusations with another one months ago.

If true, and of course that's a massive IF, it's a case study into why telling drug addicts that they are essentially above the law is a really, really bad idea.

I'm hardly some pearl clutcher, but Conor's behavior has been enabled to such a ridiculous extent that it's not hard to see it escalate into something like this. It's all fun and games until someone gets raped.

Wouldn't be the first time he's gone on a bender:

McGregor needs to get his shit together...

Those first pics didn't really show anything except that he was at a party. I remember them being put out with text saying stuff the pics did not support. So hard to know what is real.

For fucks sake. That doesn’t sound good at all.
It causes drama, it’s not fun and especially for the victim, if true.

If any of this is remotely true then money will sweep this under the carpet. Sad that our society is that foul but money talks.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to be such a fucking cunt that you could beat up, knock down and assfuck a screaming, protesting girl, then immediately afterward, bring in a legal team to toss money at the situation untill it went away.
