The difference is they arent being picked up after being cut by someone else. Machida went to bellator because they are willing to overpay for name value only. They are trying to make Chuck Tito 3 for fuckes sake
chuck vs tto is not in bellator. even bellator passed on that one

Its a good signing for Bellator in the context of the fact that he is a name that many of the casuals who watched every PPV back in 2008-2011, but now barely even watch a Conor fight, know who Machida is and can see him fight for free on TV now he's with Bellator.

However, it would be silly to think even 5% of said casuals will tune into a Bellator event in 2018 just because Machida is fighting on there.

Still, without knowing how much they've splurged on him, I give this signing a 7.5/10.

He headlined every event he’s fought in since 2013 other then being on the ufc 224 main card.
Also except for 175 and 224 were free on tv. If fans don’t know who he is then they aren’t fans.

I love how pointing out how Bellator keeps signing over the hill UFC fighters makes one a Bellator hater.

The fact is that Bellator = UFC Lite.

Their fighters aren't as good, they don't have as many fighters, and their cards are, in general, much weaker than UFC cards.

If saying that makes me a hater in your eyes, so be it.

Yes, that's what I meant. He's a relatively big name and has been for a while. But imo a lot of casuals stopped watching a lot of the cards when the UFC started putting on 75000 events a year and people just lost track and couldnt be fucked anymore.

What I'm saying is I don't think those people will tune into Bellator just because a name like Machida fights for them now. I do think people who still watch MMA regularly may tune in on occassion (which is awesome) and I think there is the possibility of some good fights for him.

I just hope he fights for another 2 or so years and then bows out. He's been hit and KO'ed a fair bit in recent years and would hate to see him goo down the same road as Goodridge etc.

How can you have such strong opinions on something you admit to not watching? That would be like me telling all the euros here what’s up on the World Cup thread.

I certainly don't think the quality of fighters is superior to the UFC (although with guys like Phil Davis and Bader - boring fighters who would otherwise be top 7 in the current shallow as fuck LHW division - Mousasi and Rory Mac etc, they are at least trying to give them a run) I like the fact that guys like Machida, Mitrione and even Sonnen can fight some solid rematches and matches against guys who are not elite, but also not pure squash matches either.

Okay, Machida's not top 10 anymore, but he's not exactly present day Ken Shamrock either. There are some interesting fights in Bellator that he can more than hold his own in imo.

C’mon man. There’s a difference in having the opinion that the UFC roster is stronger and deeper than Bellators (which it obviously is), versus posting the same played out jokes in every Bellator thread...basically suggesting Bellator fighters suck and they shouldn’t even be putting on shows.

Cmon dude you are better than that. We all love Vitor but he hasnt been Trtor in awhile
I agree but none of that is relevant. You’re bashing Bellator for signing a fighter that people had to pay $65 to watch last month on a UFC event. You can say he should retire but if Bellator didn’t pay him , the ufc would have and he’d be headlining another one of their events.

Without knowing how much they are investing in him, nobody can say that this is a bad signing.
Maybe they have an idea to do a Brazil card?

He is past prime, but certainly a good fighter still.

It can only be viewed as a good signing until we get info on why it isn't.

Did people pay for him or to see Vitors 3rd retirement fight?

A more accurate measurement would be the ratio of those over 36 to
total fighters on their respective rosters. That would tell us which of the 2
have the larger percentage of over the hill fighters
