UFC veteran Matt Brown has inked a new eight-fight deal with the promotion after reaching terms on a new contract with the organization on Wednesday.

With 21 fights inside the Octagon, Brown has proven to be one of the most durable and dependable veterans on the entire roster after joining the promotion via "The Ultimate Fighter".

Currently ranked No. 8 in the world at welterweight, Brown has gone 8-3 over his last 11 fights with victories over Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Tim Means on his resume.

Good move Zuffa. They rightfully ignore the last 4 fights because his body of work, which is outstanding.

As long as he wants to do it, I will pay to watch Matt Brown fight. The UFC really screwed up in matching him up with Maia. I hope they book fun matchups for him from here on out.

Good for him, Brown is one the fighters I look most forward to when he's on any card.

It's crazy to sign an 8 fight contract.
Might be a beautiful way to see out his career with a current employer.
My point is - should he really fight more than 8 times, unless he has a belt?

Will never mount a serious challenge for the title, but every card is better with his name on it.

Shame he didn't just sign a 3 fight deal since these contracts are so onesided. Never even tested free agency to get PAID.

If he hadn't inked this deal, I would have thought we'd see him going over to Bellator.
I don't see ufc letting him go; not at this point. I do however see other organizations putting in aggressive offers on him, then if he factors in true sponsorship money, he can sit back down and see if they want to match it - or attempt to beat it. He seems pretty valuable to me with his fan friendly style.

I'm just surprised that given the UFC's current mindset, they didn't let him go, or after another fight let him go. While it wasn't really his fault for not putting on an exciting fight that last time with Maia, and the bad publicity after, I didn't expect to see this. Good for him though. Love watching his fights. Hopefully his next matchup won't be with a Klingon.

I believe he is a draw, and they don't typically let those types of fighters leave without putting up some resistance. Then again, some fighters think they will somehow be rewarded with loyalty, so they just do what the ufc wants. Odd way of thinking since so few are actually rewarded, and with a potential sale in the future, do they really think a new owner is going to keep the hughes and liddells of the world on payroll?

Hope it's for real money.

He's making like 20K from Reebok though... which is better than most. Still shit pay for sponsorship money.

The guy is truly a fighter. He has gone through a lot and that fight with Jordan Mein was just who he is......he gave Robbie lawler some problems when you thought he was finished.......I hope he gets paid well.

That would be ideal if you're the UFC. As far as Matt Brown's actual career trajectory, it's tough to call at this point, but being locked into a contract that leaves you very little room to negotiate for what is essentially the remainder of your prime as a fighter is ill advised. I'm sure there are incentives included should he become a champion, but you'd have to admit the odds of that happening are slim to none.

He is fighting Jake Ellenberger. He is going to need all 8 fights to work his way back up.

contract seems a little too long and favours Zuffa.

If he wins, they keep him locked at some low pay probably.

If he loses, they keep him in the shelf until people forget about him so he doesn't go with bellator.

Damn they got him on lock now. Not sure that is good business. They can cut him but he can't get more money if he wins

Maybe his base pay automatically increases with wins. I'm sure he wasn't too stupid on this and has a deal he can live with fine.
