UFC welterweight Matt Brown will try to shrug off a very unpleasant trip to Brazil in his most recent octagon appearance, facing off with Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201.

ESPN reported today that verbal agreements are in place for the bout to take place at the July 30 pay-per-view event at Atlanta’s Phillips Arena, and UFC officials subsequently confirmed the booking. A welterweight title bout between champ Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley serves as the card’s headliner.

UFC 201’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The bout order has not been finalized.

Same here. Kind of surprised that he hasn't been cut yet, to be honest. Lost 5 of his last 6, and hasn't really looked good in the process.

Can't remember who he lit up a long time ago.......as a wrestler type guy, he developed a great, dare I use the term fluid ('cause I'm a beer drinking couch monger) set of hands.....

Brown vs Barberena was the fight to make.
Doubt they wanted to risk it for Brown, after signing this new deal & coming off a loss. He loses to Barberena, and his stock takes a huge hit.

Not a good rankings fight for Brown but Ellenberger is still a dangerous opponent.

You look at who he has lost to: Lawler (champ), MacDonald (fighting for #1 contender), Gastelum (top 15 WW), Thompson (fighting for #1 contender) and Saffiedine (top 15 WW). The Gastelum and Saffiedine fights are the ones he should be winning but the other three are just better fighters. I think he'd be better off going to Bellator because he would contend for the belt but there are just too many monsters in the UFC.

When you look at the UFC top 10 WW's it's mind-blowing how stacked that division is and Nick Diaz isn't even mentioned there. Cerrone could be there soon as well.

At least Brown is not known for his Karate.

( Full disclosure: Ellenberger cornered Jessica Penne against Michelle Waterson and acted cocky and condescending while doing so. I may be biased against him. )
