Floyd Mayweather says he had his sights on a different sport now.

"They (Boxing) want me back." Mayweather said. "It's time for me to move over to MMA. I mean talking as far as -- It's time for me to start promoting fights for MMA. I'm ready to get involved with that business now."

Apart from being a boxer, Floyd also runs Mayweather Promotions and has several fighters and prospects under his wing such as Gervonta Davis, Mickey Bey Jr., Badou Jack and others. MMA is obviously a differently structured sport, but if Mayweather indeed jumps in, it would certainly be interesting to see another high profile figure try their hand at it.

good luck to ya floyd
This could get interesting. No denying that Floyd knows what he's doing when it comes to the promotional side of things, and knows how to make money for himself and others.

He likes flashy entrances and I highly doubt he would want a shitty brand like Reebok associated with his promotion.

Even if he went with FUBU thats still a notch above Reebok

This goes to show that mma isn't going anywhere. When Pacquiao buys one fc shares, when Disney gets in on mma, When may weather wants to promote mma, u know there is still a lot of room for growth in mma.

The more mma the better. More competition to build the fighters up; also, more legitimate orgs that'll give world wide mma some much needed love. I can't wait for the day where there is an official system that oversees all mma. A system that ranks fighters, not letting orgs rank their own fighters.

I'd like to see how his promotion turns out. He will surly bring haymon on board tho; I don't like haymon.

This can't be bad for mma as he has a lot of "eye's" on him

Good, the more competition and more places for fighters to work, the better.

Floyd is a big name, has a lot of influence and a lot of money to throw around. Still, he's going to find out that MMA is a very tough business to break into and turn profits.

It would be very interesting to find Floyds place as an MMA promoter. He likes to be flashy and flaunt his money. He may be able to pay better than the UFC, but there is no way he could compete with contracts that Viacom put out there. Can you really see him being ok with just running a mid level promotion? I can't. I think it will be good for the sport. I will just be very interested to see where he thinks he fits in.

Scott Coker plus Floyd Mayweather in a co-promotion would be awesome. The type of one-two punch that can rattle Dana's jaw.

Don't think he will be starting his own mma promotion, but a Jon Jones UFC ppv in conjunction with Mayweather Promotions is within the realm of possibility.

I would think the brands sold at Walmart and the other chain stores are a notch above reebok.

That's the thing, If Floyd tries to break into mma, I'm sure he isn't stupid enough to do things on his own. A co promotion with rizin and bellator is highly probable considering how open Coker is to co promoting. Bellator has already formed relationships with oktagon kb, road fc, rizin. I also think they have formed a connection with jungle fights. They also co promoted with glory.

I feel it to be wise if Floyd came in and collaborated with bellator. Bellator can definitely use may weathers star power. May weather could definitely use spikes platform. Win win imo.

Also keep in mind that haymon is floyds boxing adviser. Haymon runs pbc which airs on spike from time to time.. Just food for thought.

Yeah I'm sure Mayweather would be looking to co-promote with an established brand rather than start up his own league. The cool thing about Bellator is where they're #2, they're willing to take risks and try new things so maybe Coker strikes up a deal with Mayweather Promotions and they do something like that. Floyd has a lot of reach and influence, he can probably sway a lot of anti-MMA boxing fans over if they hear Floyd saying "no, it's not gay, it's not two bums rolling around, it's actually a great sport".

Co-promotion is the next step on the road to fighters truly becoming independent contractors.

I see Floyd building his own league, comprised of a lot of would be boxers and anchoring cards with the occasional well known star. There just aren't that many free agents out there for this not to be a development league experiment. Even with co-promotion, the non-UFC landscape is tough to get talent on board for.
