pool contractor doing an estimate for a superficial restoration of the pool notices so much standing water under the pool and in the pool equipment room that he sends pics to his boss. Two people who work at the condos mention that the pumps they use to pump out the sea water can't keep up with the seepage, and have to be replaced every two years. Exposed rebar, crumbling concrete...

this was the damage to the area of the underground garage that DID NOT collapse.

Damn, so these condos, in reality, were giant pieces of shit like the rest of Florida.

CBS4’s Jim DeFede interviewed William Espinosa, a Champlain maintenance manager from the late 1990s, who said ocean saltwater would make its way into the underground garage — so much that “pumps never could keep up with it.”

Get used to this sort of shit happening too, I think. Plenty of 1950s-era overpasses and such waiting to collapse.

The question is, did the people who knew the building wasn't safe to live in tell all the residents? Or are they guilty of something like a Florida version of criminally negligent homicide?

They had taken out a multimillion dollar loan and asked all the residents for $80,000 for repairs so they at least new it needed work

This constant Biden trolling would probably work better if there were any actual Biden fans here. 👍

Not a troll.
Just a joke.

You don't think a 97 year old man who can't talk or think straight visiting a disaster site is comical?

Although I do bet he turns this into an opportunity to bring up his "infrastructure" bill.

Guys. Relax.
Biden is visiting the site soon. All will be handled.
I'm hoping he announces a commission to oversee the department that is supposed oversee commercial building inspections. That should fix it.

Not to be a dick but that’s residential highrise, not commercial. As far as I know it wasn’t a mixed use building with shops on ground level.

😎

fuck I’m cool

I think that every President who visits a local disaster scene is basically a distraction and a hindrance, and does it more for the photo op than because it'll actually help.

Although if we're talking about Presidents and their mental capacities...... think Biden will be with-it enough (or give enough of a shit about these people) to get the town's name right, at least?

It's still considered commercial since there are tenants.

If one rich fucker lived there I guess it could be called a residential building, but "mixed use" has nothing to do with the designation.
