I do agree. He avoided tj and demanded to fight a +700 underdog......mm was -1200 according to the little banner under his name......caught it quickly when I was fast forwarding through that fight

Its the truth. It has any easy route to breaking Anderson Silva's record.
Yea? Do u remember when Anderson broke the record for most consecutive title defenses (6) against Damian Maia, how he fought? That’s straight ducking in the cage to break the record.

Hating is hating, should recognize great accomplishments

I remember but at least he fought Maia. Mighty Mouse hasn't beat anybody who was considered great.
He fought Cruz and lost.

You can play that angle all day. What? R u gonna deny that he defended title 11 times???? Numbers don’t lie. The reason division is thin has nothjng to do with him.

Trying to figure out who has more legitimate wins and opponents is like figuring out if Jordan would have done good or bad in today’s NBA.

Now that he broke the record I fully expect him to challenge himself to better fighters from/in the weight class above, and he can always come back and defend and improve the record when the top 5 in his division improve and solidify themselves as his next challenger

We are talking about Mouse here.
I thought you citing him was as evidence of someone DJ fought who was great and didn't beat.

Kid Yamamoto and Miguel Torres were once considered great and DJ beat them both (admittedly with some dispute in the Torres fight). Benavidez was a consistent top contender at 135 and remains one at 125. Cejudo was an Olympic gold medalist. Great is a relative term and applying the same rubric we do to other GOAT contenders, all of those fighters would be considered great. If not, we have to use a similar updated rubric to evaluate Fedor, Anderson and GSP's legacies.

People act as if DJ needs Dillashaw to get over the hump to greatness, but Dillashaw is mostly a media creation. He was never the real champ, just heir to the interim lineage after he took that belt Barao was holding for Cruz. The guy lost definitively to a guy DJ convincingly beat twice. Dillashaw is the one who needs a win over a Garbrandt or DJ just to stay relevant.

I'd love to see DJ move up and do it again with Cruz or face the winner of Garbrandt/Dillashaw, but the truth is, even if he doesn't, he's earned his place as one of the greatest of all time.

And this is how you win a thread

There is no debate MM and GSP are #1 and #2
Can be debated which is #1 but those are the top 2

im not sure why everyone plays into this with these guys, its the same thing over and over. Just because 1 guy on an MMA forum things DJ isnt GOAT isnt gonna change the fact he is.
