Morning Report: Donald Cerrone responds to Khabib Nurmagomedov's steroid accusations, welcomes additional drug testing - MMA Fighting

Leading up to their lightweight title eliminator May 23 at UFC 187, Khabib Nurmagomedov has certainly done his best to get under Donald Cerrone'sskin.

Nurmagomedov has been needling Cerrone on social media since the fight was booked in February, but now he's beginning to exceed good taste.

While Nurmagomedov, a practicing Muslim, has had his fun calling Cerrone a 'drunk guy' 'alcoholic' for his endorsement agreement with Anheuser-Busch, the Dagestani is now incorrectly accusing him of using steroids.

While it might be something lost in translation, Nurmagomedov isn't accurate....

Man, I sure wish the original fight was still a go! Go for him for keeping a fight on this card though. He should have no problem with Makdessi, and he has and continues to build up a shot ton of good will with the bosses, whether that will pay off in the end or not, we'll see!

Is it surprising though? If you have a history of coasting and not going for the finish, what incentive is there for the promotion to put you ahead of someone who puts it on the line in exciting fights? If you want to fight that way fine, but make sure you win or don't expect favours.

I don't see him as coasting. I see him as being a technical striker with good take down and boxing defense. If the KO was available what fighter would say, Nah imma just dance away and jab instead of attempting an overhand right to end the fight. Don't like lay and pray? Ok I get it. But strikers have to forget technique to throw windmill punches to be exciting?

I didn't say you have to throw windmill punches to be exciting, there are plenty of very technical strikers that are very exciting. Of all types too, out fighters like Antony Pettis, pressure fighters like Weidman, boxer-punchers like Mcgregor or brawlers like Matt Brown. Masvidal is a good out fighter, but he has a tendency to coast, happy to sit behind his jab and not do much else.

It is part of the reason he has so many decisions. His best success in the first round against Al Iaquinta was when he moved forward and countered with combinations, but by the second and third he was content to just pump the jab and evade damage, which lost him the decision. If you want to fight like that fine, I can appreciate the technical prowess, but it isn't going to get the promoter knocking down your door, and leaves you open to being outworked for a decision.
