Going after the UFC rankings system is the lowest of the low hanging fruit, but somebody has got to pick it every now and then.

By far the most ridiculous is Brian Ortega. The guy hasn't won a fight in 2 1/2 years yet is ranked behind only Max and ahead of Zabit, Zombie and Yair. He does not hold a single victory over a current top 15 featherweight (Edgar is still in FW rankings but has moved to Bantamweight).

Let that sink in. The apparent number 3 FW in the world has never beaten another current ranked opponent and hasn't won in nearly 3 years. Guy deserves points for nailing some hollywood celebrities, but this is taking it way too far.

Aside from Conor (normal rules do not apply to him), are there any other insanely idiotic current rankings?

Must be his Modelo commercial keeping him ranked that high.

The UFC keeps thinking it can build these Plastic Pedros - Ortega, Cruz, Cain - into stars, but the evidence is clear with the Diaz brothers and Masvidal that it's not something that can be forced.

And the weird thing is, they are trying to protect Ortega's status over an actual Mexican, a guy they can make further inroads into the potentially lucrative Korean market with, and a potential Khabib fanbase replacement with Zabit. It's not like they are holding back Jon Fitch.

Maybe the simple answer is that Dana is just as gay for Ortega as everyone else is.

Any list without Page and Sage is a mockery of the sport.

In Ortega’s defense, he was up on the judge’s cards when he slapped TKZ’s k-pop friend/translator before security forcibly removed him from the arena.

I didn't realize Ortega had gone so long without a victory.

Clearly his ridiculously high ranking is related to those in-fight striking lessons Max gave him

Haha, fuck. I'd never seen that before. It is a good thing the dude hasn't fought for a long time after that and has given his brain a chance to recover from that fight.

But if the best thing you can say about the supposed 3rd best featherweight in the world is 'it's good he has stopped fighting because he gets brutally beaten when he does', then you'd hate to see what the 4th ranked featherweight is like.
