Mount Etna erupts as large plumes rise from Italian volcano

The full scale of the eruption is currently unclear and disruption appears to be minimal.

Looks like those who were near the volcano were fortunate, as the pyroclastic flow went down the opposite side.

Looking at this gif, you can see why those people in Pompeii back in the day were caught so off guard. Look at the speed of that thing.

Just looked and the peak was at about 11,000 feet. Seeing it blow from afar would be my preferred view point.
