Moving from the Bay Area to Portland beginning of April. Having a really hard time finding a house to rent with 2-3 beds, a garage and a yard in a decent area. Anyone got a bead on one? We're down to crunch time...

Im in Vancouver right across the river. Much cheaper rent.
You could probably rent a 3bd room 2000sq foot house for about $1800-$2000 pretty easily.

P town is cool once you settle in though....sounds so spendy though
We're specifically moving there to stretch out dollar. I live in a 770 sq-ft 1 bedroom and pay >$2500/month. I can get a house with yard, basement and garage in Portland for less than that. It's a skewed perspective, but there it is.
No sales tax as well although Oregon does have an income tax.
Since Im in Washington I dont pay income tax and If Im buying anything expensive like electronics etc I just drive 5 minutes to Portland to avoid Washingtons 9% sales tax.
Its pretty nice.

Youre definitely going to see some weird ass people in Portland no doubt about that.
It's not like I haven't been there before. I just thought it was funny. I didn't know about the depression- probably different reasons.

house with a decent yard is going to be tough. Housing market in PDX is screwy because METRO restricts home zoning. Anything built after 1993 is going to have a tiny yard and will probably be built out of cardboard.

you can't pump your own gas. So there's always lines while minimum wage losers wander between cars and pump gas at a leisurely pace

moved back to AZ last year, lived in Hillsboro for 11 years prior.
Just enough to get The Real PDX, before it turned in to a knock-off of itself.
