I hate waking up the morning after a big Mayweather fight and scanning my twitter or MMA Community boards and reading the same things I have been reading since MMA took off in 06. (This is the end of Boxing! What could possibly be next? That was so boring MMA is def superior!)

The reality is the same people who are making these comments are the same people who pretend to be soccer fans every time the world cup rolls around. They are not real boxing fans and their opinion is irrelevant to the sport. Where were all these people a few weeks ago when Provodnikov fought Matthysse? O yeah... they weren't watching , because they are not real fans. They are followers, they simply followed the masses and the celeberties to the big event because it was the thing to do. And guess what... next time boxing has a big event they will do it again.

These same casuals NOW will talk about the mastery of men like Pernell Whitaker and then bash Mayweather. How? because they never really watched Sweet Pea...they just know he is a guy who boxing purist hold in the upmost respect. But if you can't appreciate what Mayweather has been able to do to champion after champion, including a 8 division legend like Pacman...there is no way you ever enjoyed a Whitaker fight.

Days like this I get embarassed to affiliate myself with MMA . Did MMA fans forget the biggest event this year for MMA was Silva vs Diaz? Did they forget that fight also wasn't charged with action and often looked like a glorified sparing session as well? No they praised Silva for being courageous in his return...well until his drug test came in. Did boxing fans launch of tweet after tweet about MMA being dead? Did they spend the whole month prior comparing every one of there main stars to Silva and Diaz and how they would destroy them in a fist fight like MMA did with Conner vs Mayweather / DJ vs Mayweather / and worst Ronda vs Mayweather? No they didn't care.

The fact of the matter is Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers to have ever walked the earth. We are having the privilege of getting to see him with our own eyes putting the final touches on a perfect career. Its a privilege to watch this. I'd pay 100 for his next fight regardless of who his opponent is. What he does is inspiring to those who can recognize how he is utterly shutting down some of the most prolific offensive fighters of any generation. Its amazing.

Sorry for the rant. Have a good Sunday everyone.

Boxing vs MMA Primetime viewing numbers | The MMA Community Forum

Average Viewership

PBC on NBC (2 cards): 3.03 million viewers

UFC on Fox (14 cards): 3.34 million viewers

Interestingly enough, the PBC on NBC is right on par with the UFC on Fox, especially when it comes to more recent times. The peak audience for UFC on Fox is still their debut all the way back in 2011 at 5.7 million viewers. And if one only looks at the audiences from the start of 2014, PBC on NBC actually beats UFC on Fox, as the latter has averaged 2.8 million viewers in those five fight cards.

There's plenty of interest in boxing...at least that is if MMA fans think there's any reasonable interest in MMA.

I agree with the post above. I'm not a big follower of boxing but I had a bunch of family over for my sons 4th Bday so we put the fights on. After the third round I decided to not engauge in any talking about the fight for reasons stated above. I love my family to death but they're not fight fans so it was a ton of criticism at the biggest fight in years. I enjoyed it for what its worth and am glad I tuned in, wish I had a better crowd to watch with is all....

Understand where you are coming from and I could be considered one of those who doesn't appreciate floyd, but I have never been a boxing purist but did watch a lot of fights in the 90s and funny you should mention sweet pea. I just mentioned him in one of my favorite fights on another thread was the one where he did the exact opposite of his style in the hurtado fight. I agree floyd is one the greatest ever but not my type, that's all (I also mentioned in another thread there was no way pacman was going to hit him and for sure floyd would win or I would buy the guy and his wife dinner anywhere in London if floyd lost.). I don't believe boxing is dead, not with 200 mill or more going to the fighters.

My thoughts are I am so glad I didn't waste 100 bucks because I 100 percent knew it would be a 12 round decision for floyd

I agree with 95 ppercent of that statement...I grew up on sweet pea and am Vocal my appreciation of Sweet Pea..Its just that ppl are acting like this is a surprise..Floyds who he is because he ALWAYS dictates the fight..ppl just became bored with his greatness and focus on his attitude..Btw I would take SP on a dream match...UD
