Gary "Big Daddy" Goodridge crucifix elbows and knees Paul Herrera

What makes this such a great knock out for me, I can't pinpoint to just one thing.
For one, it's a throwback to the good old days, when fighting was PURE. For two, the knockout itself is incredibly devestating, hits from elbows AND knees. Even though thousands of mma matches have happened since this fight, to date, no one has won by knockout in that position more devestating. Honestly I can't even think of a significant fight or fighter who was involved in knocking an opponent out with elbows in the crucifix position. Lastly, what makes this such a great knockout, is the fucking STAYING power it has. Those who watched it when it happened, to this DAY can close their eyes and picture Gary in his black gi cruxifixing the shit out of Paul. Knockouts happen all the time, but for one to have staying power like that one, is TRULY special.

#2 Dan Henderson's "H-Bomb" on Michael Bisping.
You didn't have to watch mma before these two coached Tuf. Without having any mma knowledge or history, the beef and shit talking leading up to this fight, was nothing short of Epic.
The fact that Dan Henderson represented so much....
Old school
American
Work ethic/heart/toughness over skill
Respectful

You got Bisping who represented the new gen
British
Skill over grind
Disrespectful

So much was on the line, more than just Pride.(excuse the pun). Many people forget Dan Henderson was on his final contract going into this fight.(although he still didn't resign with UFC so perhaps that's moot).
When Dan landed that H-Bomb at perhaps UFC's BIGGEST event ever, it wasn't just Bisping that had his jaw dropped, everyone watching dropped their jaws as well!
If I had one word to describe the emotion I felt......"jubilant"

#1 Gabriel Gonzaga Mirko's Mirko Cro Cop
The storyline on this one isn't as greate as Dan/Bisping. No extra points for it being old school era as this happened post Pride.
So why is this #1? Because it's the most devestating knock out I've ever seen! When you knock someone out so bad their big toe ends up pointing at their own asshole, you know you done fucked someone up....BIGTIME
You have the shock value of the high kick expert being high kicked by a ground specialist. You have a brutal knockout, opponent clearly out before he hits the canvas. And of course the bent back leg to add even more gruesome violence! I watched that replay so much that I even noticed seasoned veteren referee Herb Dean does a gasp with his hand covering his mouth in a brief moment of shock before he fixes Mirko's leg. For a seasoned ref to have that disgusted look on his face, you know you saw something we don't see often.

Three very good picks. Big Daddy's elbows destruction from hell was just violent in it's purest form. I remember watching that at like 20 years old, and feeling like a got a reality check as to how tough I really thought I was.

I would add Rashad's KO of Chuck. Not that I don't like Chuck...I just remember watching that one punch crumbling Chuck. and being in total disbelief.

Hard to argue that list. For me, the Goodridge is tops. If anything I might take off the CroCop and replace it with the rampage slam of Arona.

Apparently Gifs can't be retrieved and hosted locally? It just brings up a still image if you try.

That slam will always have a special place in my heart.

At that time, mma was still taboo and still a few years from mainstream.

The old mma forum I posted at mmafighting.net, someone had posted that Rampage had a "cell phone for fan interaction". Again, mma still hadn't peaked in America and I figured, why not call and see if it's actually Rampage....

I called, without thinking ahead of time(dumbass), and sure enough, it was Quinton Jackson! He was in between training sessions and I made small talk about him working his ground game, working his ground in particular b/c Arona has the ADCC background.

Rampage was like "Adc what?!"
I was like, "are you serious?!?!?! You've never heard of ADCC submission wrestling"

He said, and I quote VERBATIM, "Nah, I don't fuck with that shit, I'm a street fighter, ya know what I'm sayin"

I ended the call wishing him well and hanging up thinking....Fuck, if Arona has him on the ground, Rampage is FUCT

Back then all my friends used to gather at my place to watch events, and his fight with Arona wasn't an exception. Of course I had told all my friends about Actually talking to Rampage and how Rampage claimed he is a "Street Fighter". Some of my friends who trained jiu jitsu laughed at Rampages ignorance and seemingly false confidence in his "street fighting game".

Then, Arona gets a triangle, Rampage feels pressure, turns on his "Street fighter mode" button, and SLAMS the Fuck Out of Arona for Rampage's 25th birthday present to himself :)

I felt like such an insider after Rampage made that non adcc move in pure Street Fighter fashion!!

I've been thinking about this for a few hours but here's
mine. Deciding on only 3 was hard. Going on shock value alone..

1) Pat Smith vs Scott Morris.

One of my very first MMA fights I ever watched was this one and for an 11 year old the shock value was way high! Unfortunately my mother happened to be in the living room at the time that this fight was on and made me take out the tape and return it. After watching that fight, I HAD to see more of those UFC fights.

2) Tank Abbot vs Steve Nelmark

I really thought that Nelmark had died in there. Just a brutal KO. One that you could watch on repeat for hours.

3) Vitor Belfort vs Tank Abbot

After seeing Tank demolish Matua and Nelmark, Tank was in my mind the baddest dude on the planet. Seeing a 19 yr old Belfort completely embarrass Tank was shocking. Vitor became my favorite fighter on the
day I watched that fight and has been ever since. It wasn't a one punch clean ko but it was quick and brutal none the less.

Man so many good ones, but I hate that the Crocop GG has to go on the list.
I mean, objectively, obviously.

But emotionally, I just. It was the end of the Pride generation with a full exclamation point.
Here's crocop. He's come over and was rumored to have been paid 350K/fight + ppv sharing. Everyone is like, motherfuckers about to get killed!
Crocop looks rather timid in his fight against Eddie Sanchez. But hey its the new arena, he's just getting warmed up.
Then this GG guy - oh shit? boxer with a serious ground game?. Okay, CC just needs to keep it standing and this guy is going to sleep! And CC had just kept Barnett off him a couple times so surely!
BOOM takedown, vicious elbow and the ridiculous kick her round the world.

Of course, after this GG becomes the cowardly lion everytime he gets punched.
The most impressive thing to me is that CC was granted a reprieve of some kind to leave the UFC, go get some Japanese warm up fights, get his head straight, and come back. No matter what you think about the man, he must have had a serious ass lawyer team to allow this to take place in the heyday of Couture and others making a stink about exclusivity.
