Obviously it's impossible to know for sure. But here's the short list of elite guys/UFC champions that come to mind for me, who I think and would hope have not used PEDs:

BJ
Serra (post retirement TRT a different story)
Bisping
Weidman
Edgar
Nick
Nate

Who do you think can be added to this list? Do you think anyone on this list was or is using?

BJ Penn
Nick Diaz
Nate Diaz
Gil Melendez
Jake Shields
Frankie Edgar
Chris Weidman

Honestly, that's about as far as I would go.

I would add Melendez to my list too, good call. I know Shields was popped for a diuretic when he fought Ed Herman, though. So it's not out of the question that CGJJ guys have used at least something along the way. He always struggled with the 170 cut (Jake), so it's not surprising that bouncing around between that and 185 would cause him to need PEDs to make weight correctly when he hit his mid 30s.

I was very surprised when Jake tested positive and figured it was for weed, but it came out about a month ago it was a diuretic. He is all into vegan shit like the Diaz bros, so it's possible he thought he was taking some natural diuretic and was fucked. However, he didn't contest it at all, and I've learned not to be so naive.

Unless they fail a test I won't accuse anyone.....but I don't trust that any top fighter is 100% clean. For example, if it came out that even my beloved BJ used at some point.....I'd be disappointed, but surprised?

I would also add Gabriel Gonzaga to the list. Probably a lot of guys out there like Mike Russow who were clean, but they never got that elite level. Gonzaga did fight for the title and KO'd Mirko when he was top 2-3.

I'm nearly positive Gonzaga has been clean, because I live in the same town he has. I was part of an MMA promotion here for a 4 year period from 2007 to 2010, and when you are involved with it, you know who is using what, which teams have the most users, etc. I never once, from anybody (even the most jealous gossipy idiots in the entire scene) heard Gabe's name brought up in that kind of conversation.

If you don't take my word for it, take a look at the guy's physique and how he's naturally aged and slowed down at the same time greatly. If he was using it's almost a guarantee I would know. I can't go into detail really because my name is attached to my account, but I was not just acquaintances, but even family, with people who sold gear to fighters in the area. I have no doubt if THE most high profile UFC fighter that lives around here was on gear, I would have heard at least something.

This was all pre regulation too in my state. Zero testing, wild west times. Not that long ago really..

Same. I was surprised that the news broke (as it's obviously shocking) but at the same time it's like... well yeah, of course, duh. Until someone tests positive you can never make those accusations. But when you do a little digging on guys and what camp/background they come from, their close friends/training partners who tested positive, the organization they were in that didn't test period... blah blah blah

It's just how the sport is, man. What is the most "shocking" of it all to me is the fact the UFC has absolutely destroyed itself and its reputation over the course of 2 years like no one could have guessed. I mean imagine if someone told you all the shit we know now back in 2009, around UFC 100 time?

Spot on.......The UFC is doing it to themselves. Arrogance and ego will sink the ship. They got lucky with Tuf, got a huge influx of new fans and started to believe after a few good years that they were smarter than everyone else. They have squandered an opportunity to build the sport of mma/UFC and instead it's shriveling. They focus on expanding to all these obscure places and the fans that have been here all along supporting the sport are fed up.

Spot fucking on. What's funnier is if either of us made those posts on the UG, we'd be frozen or banned by mods/votedowns for sure. Yet it's the truth.

During the boom period it seemed like MMA was only gonna get bigger and bigger and be the new "soccer" (lol ok Dana)... But when history looks back at this, people are gonna think this:

It was a fad for a couple years in the US.. then the greed, over saturation and lies really hurt the public perception of the sport and brought it back to being a niche combat sport on the level of modern day boxing, where outside of hardcore fans, regular people in America can barely name more than 2-3 fighters currently active off the top of their heads.

I really hope this isn't what happens.. but now that the UFC is the only show in town, if they fail, who is left to pick up the pieces?

I don't worry G, if they fail you better believe there are REAL mma fans with the resources and knowledge that would allow the sport to move on just fine. It might not be at the scale it is or has been, but it is not going anywhere. It's here to stay, big or small.

Personally, let them collapse like a building being demolished. OneFC and Bellator would pick up the pieces, new players would enter the fold, and who knows...maybe the SPORT as a whole, takes another step forward. The UFC isnt the end all, be all of Mixed Martial Arts. Have they done some very good things for the sport? Absolutely, but they've tripped over their cocks on numerous occasions, which has set the sport back as well (example: the entire PED fiasco and how it's been handled).

I wouldn't want to see the UFC go to shite, but would love to see at least one or two other big promotions, and they should be doing a champion of champions event every end of the year.

What's kind of ironic, these type threads have been done over at the shithole before, and guess who's name would come up regularly? Yep, Anderson.

I fucking LOVE Mark Hunt, but I would not be totally shocked to hear a fighter from ATT who started a late career resurgence around the same time he began training with them, was on gear : (

BUT, fuck that, because Mark Hunt rules. ATT is highly suspicious as a camp period though. However, heavyweight is a different game, and someone like Hunt would have more longevity than most. His natural power and ability lend to this. It's not like he became a ripped cardio machine with ATT, he started training seriously again and putting fools down.

But again, I would not be completely shocked :-/ I know it sounds like I'm walking the line on it all, but it's like..how do you not? How do you not suspect everyone? I wouldn't be surprised if a single name in this thread tested positive, but if I had to believe ANYONE wasn't on, it'd be these guys (Hunt included, but again, who knows?)'

To be fair I'm sur eyou can come up with a hypothesis/scenario where ANY top fighter in history may have used or was closely associated with a using team/trainer. Who the fuck knows?

I was on for a bit. Half of them are upset and the other half is finding justification with the "it was for recovery" line.

Massive Nick Diaz hate from some of them for some reason.

Maybe if Diaz punctured a lung or something previously then he would be justified in the "recovery" uses of the latin lettuce. lol
