Would you allow your 11 year old to watch it?

that's a tough one...if she was in a similar situation or I thought it would be relevant, I could watch it with an 11 yo daughter...but probably not, unless I thought she was going to watch it anyway.

But in the children's world that is pretty much what is happening. They aren't discussing the lesson to be learned. They are snickering and making jokes about the clips.

I formed this opinion after talking to my teenagers. A friend of mine brought the movie up this weekend.

My son's opinion is that it is disgusting and is just providing "candy" for pedos. I brought up that the concept of the movie was to show how disgusting it is. He hasn't seen the movie (and says that he won't) but things he's seeing shared between teens (on social media) about the movie are the glamorous clips and inappropriate comments, none of the "lesson learning" issues brought up or discussed. His final thought was that the lesson should have been taught in a way that didn't provide the visual material to be so freely used in inappropriate ways.

I have mixed emotions about this. I remember my dad having a fit when my sister went to see the movie 'Little Darlings'. However, my sister loved it and every teen girl that actually saw the movie did, too and came away with the clear moral of the story.

That being said, I do know that some of the clips that I have seen clearly fit the legal description of child pornography. We shall see if 'in the name of art' will save them.

If it doesn't, Lord help us all. It will open a dark door, imo.
not taking a shot at your son, but an opinion formed on the marketing of the movie isn't really relevant.
No, none of the clips you have seen fit the legal definition of pornography. There's a moment where a HS girl flashes a nipple, but there's the 'plausibly 18 and not sexual'. Other than that, nothing in the movie is pornographic.

I'm not listening to any opinions that begin with "I haven't seen the movie, but..."

FWIW - commander and I agree that "Kids" was far more 'pornographic' than "Cuties"

This guy words it better than I could. He did watch it, in case anyone is wondering. Lol

Cuties may try, on some level, to critique the sexualization of young girls. But it does so by taking a group of young girls and objectifying them through their dance movements, revealing clothing and life choices. Some of these images are simply shocking—and they’re the ones that have provoked the firestorm around Cuties. The film gratuitously, excessively indulges in the very images and ideas it’s supposedly criticizing. To say that the result is a mixed message is an understatement indeed.

But does anyone of any age really need to see such a graphic portrayal of this problem to know how damaging it is to young girls growing up in this toxic cultural fog today? The answer is clear, especially when we acknowledge the sad fact that certain viewers with a pedophilic predilection for children won’t be watching this film because of its cultural commentary or cautionary message.

This would be like chastising Saving Private Ryan for glorifying violence. Some things need to be put on stage even though they are horrible to get the point across that yes they are worse than you can ever imagine.

Cuties isn’t on my watch list but it’s not because of any reasons about pedos. I have an 11 year old daughter and we talk very openly about sex and her behaviour with tiktok and other social media being so popular. If young people are watching this and not getting the point it’s up to adults to make sure they do. Perhaps my opinion will change if I decide to watch but like most controversial issues around tv, movies, video games and so on I expect parents to be able to help younger people understand what’s really going on as they generally have no idea.

It’s rated MA kids are not meant to be the audience.
If clips are released about a movie involving 11 years old girls and it needs to be watched to prove it’s not a pedo film. That sounds like a movie that shouldn’t be made imo.

I’d bet that most younger people aren’t even watching the show but getting all the worst clips from twitter or some other social media. That’s when an adult needs to step in and give context as to what’s going on. Again, I haven’t seen this show so I can’t speak with absolute confidence here. I had to have lots of awkward talks this year with the age my kids are at and all the shit that’s going on lately. I’m happy to do so as their dad and like to think after each talk they’ve learned something beyond an inappropriate way to dance. If those talks didn’t take place she’d probably be on tiktok shaking her ass or promoting some hashtag not having a clue what kind of message it’s sending.

i don’t get why people are reposting images and videos of what they feel is basically child porn.
because some people think this should be allowed and they can look at it to see if they really think that

if you feel offended good on you. i didn't post anything that's not already out there

I’m not offended. I just don’t get reposting images you find obscene.

Good point.

I'm glad you didn't need to watch a film full of children exhibiting sexual explicit behavior to know that it is harmful.

knowing something is harmful isn't the same as understanding how it came to be or knowing how to reduce the harm.

He makes a valid point. If someone says "This shouldn't be on Netflix, it's kiddie porn!" Its kind of perplexing why that person would then say "Also, I should share it with other people."
I never said this was porn. I read this thread and saw people saying Basically the poster was just a Netflix exaggeration of the movie. I posted a tweet to show the poster was accurate.

I wasn't referring to you specifically, but fair enough.

never said it should or shouldn't be on anywhere.

I'm all for the 1st Amendment so if certain network wants to put it up on their site, it's on them. But just be aware of the backlash they'll get. It just shows what type of people they are, also the ones who'd be tuning in.

and my post was in regards to certain posts where people say "I didn't watch it..." but condoning it, and was a clip from youtube, anyone can go look at up. not that perplexing
