They actually planned on making it much bigger but they worried about fallout and the delivery plane so they scaled it down quite a bit.

Yeah, I did a study on it a couple decades ago.
Also this says it was 50 million tons of TNT equivalent.
I have a decent memory, and actually recall it being 62 million tons.

One might say 50, 62...what's the difference at that point?

Perhaps.
But 12 million tons of TNT is significant imo.
This is iirc.
