$100s of millions in real money or according to Hollywood accounting? Even a steaming pile of shit like this has its uses to them as a write-off, provided they saw the writing on the wall and cut its real budget, which given the clips I've seen, looks like they did.

They had to reshoot a ton of it, got rid of the alphabet people that were the "elves" after shooting the whole movie, pay for all that cgi... etc
They kept throwing good money after bad at this thing.

It would have to be an international hit to even break even.

If they didn't care about losing money why would they keep rewriting it?

BTW, they still didn't use real midgets just cartoons again.
