NFL rookie contracts do have performance escalators, but they definitely should be more comprehensive. I think only 2nd through 7th round picks are eligible and they only apply to certain years. The problem before was pay aligning with value, but if value is demonstrated that shouldn’t be an issue.

The NFLPA has gotten its ass handed to them two consecutive negotiations.
I don't think Rnd 1 dudes get a performance incentive. That's for guys outside of the 1st round who participate in x% of teams plays for the season.

The signing bonuses for 1st round dudes are huge, while the annual salaries are team-feiendly. But as far as I know - no available performance bonuses.

Yeah it’s only from the 2nd round on. Initially it was only the 3rd round on, so maybe adjustment will continue.

I was leaning more towards things like x receiver is in the top 20 in receptions, yards and TDs. He gets an extra $$$ on top of his rookie salary.

Yeah I don’t disagree, thats why I said current escalators aren’t comprehensive enough. I don‘t think 1st rounders should be excluded either. Top producers should be compensated regardless of league tenure length.

Part of me wants ownership to stick to their guns and fine his ass for every game he doesn't play. Don't reward bad behavior.

The fan in me wants them to pay him whatever he wants because I want the best possible team on the field.

Either way it's pretty annoying.
Dude has 2 years left on his current contract.
Because of the new CBA the team does have to fine him for games not played. They are not allowed to cancel it out as its a league rule. They could elect to pay him back under the table though after they come to a deal I bet.

He does have 2 years on his deal but thats the culture now for elite players. Guys like Higgins and other made a mistake by not holding out in year 3 like Chase is doing now. If Chase waits he gets the Franchise Tag and thats what he is trying to avoid the most. So saying that he has 2 years left is exactly why he's doing it now. All he has to do is look at how Higgins is getting fucked over and know he does not want to go down the same path.

I cant remember if its the same deadline under this new 17 game schedule or not but Chase atleast has to show up by week 7(or 8) in order for this season to count towards his contract though

Brock Huard still tells stories about players bitching about how cheap the Bengals are. Making them reuse inexpensive shit like jockstraps when other teams just replace them. Mike Brown is next level.

He implied they had to reuse their own no matter their condition. If a player wanted a new one, they had to buy it themselves.

He said on other teams basic equipment like that was kept in stock. You could throw out whatever and have it replaced immediately. It’s like the scene in Moneyball where David Justice finds out the soda isn’t free.
