General Nintendo switch 2

Switch 2 drops tomorrow. Anyone have their name on one?

Everyone is apparently gonna have to download a Day 1 patch / software update just to get the Switch 2 to work out of the box.

Imagine someone dropping $500+ on a Switch 2, the new Mario Kart, etc, then comes home to realize their internet is out and they can't use their brand new system until it's fixed.

Dumb. I've hated the direction this thing has gone for quite a while. There should be an offline version for people who don't want to give their DNA sample and SSN to play a round of golf too.

My console days are over. PS4 was sort of a renaissance for me, but I couldn't be bothered with PS5. I bought a Wii U for Mario Maker and sold it a few months later. Getting old sucks.

I don't disagree, but I think those days are pretty much over - especially with how big games are now and not being able to fit them on physical media - even with AI upscaling.

Not to mention game companies (both indies and big companies) will wanna be able to go the digital route whenever possible so they can save money on having to provide physical media.

This will likely be even more son on the Switch 2 as the bigger cartrdiges are apparently quite a bit more expensive.

Too bad. Personally, I feel like the PS3 / 360 era was peak gaming.

I haven't had a gaming system in quite a while, though I do like to keep up with the news, sometimes watch game walkthroughs, etc.

When I do get something new, it'll be a mini-PC that can do PS3 / 360 emulation & below without a ton of headaches Maybe I'll wait until PS4 era emulation is consistent and a thing.

Though honestly, the number of what seem to be good games from the last two generations of consoles seems to pale compared to say the PS2/PS3 era.

PS3 was a huge letdown for me after PS2. Almost everything from that console felt incomplete.

I have a PS5 and it just sits there. Not the best generation for consoles all around. PS it far and away leading the charge though. Xbox seemingly just gave up in a multitude of ways. NES is 20 years behind.

Remember when Sony made headlines a while back because it turned out their TOS said something about not transfering your license for a game (which I guess is de facto "issued" upon purchase) to someone else? Meaning presumably, if you bought a physical copy of a game, you weren't even allowed to then sell it?

I don't know whatever ended up happening with that.

Early hacking reports say even slight voltage fluctuations caused by a flash memory reader are turning it into a brick. Nintendo isn't fucking around after the Yuzu mess.

I had one a few years ago, all 1,000 games were lame. Threw it away.

I used to have all these burned onto a Dreamcast. Big collection. That controller was a monster but somehow perfect for fighting games and shooters.

The el cheapo systems already set up (usb stick, mini-pic, etc) are gonna be hit-or-miss and you kinda get what you pay for.

Drop $40-50 and you might get something that'll do some stuff. Probably all very old (think Atari, Commodore, maybe some NES). A ton of repeats and a lot of it won't work.

The mini-pcs that are say $100-200 will have more on them and be a bit better quality. Typically will be up into the PS2 / Xbox / N64 era. If they have anything past that, they likely won't work. They'll have a fuck ton of games on them (like 2000 or some shit) but you'll often see a zillion copies of the same game or whatever else.

There are a shit-ton of emulation channels on youtube. Look up reviews for anything like that if you're thinking of picking one up.
