The launch conference was yesterday. The price will be 300 usd and be out on March 3, 2017. It has the ability to connect to your phone or other smart device so you can play online games on the go.

Heres some trailers.

Heres a saxxy trailer for some of the other games.

The Mario and Zelda trailers (Zelda looks fucking fantastic) are damn near enough to make me buy this at launch. If there had been a new Metroid Prime I would have pre-ordered it.

How cool is it that some things translate across generations like that?

No kid born in the last 25 years grew up playing the original zelda or mario, yet those are still the Feature titles.

There's always time to start again.
When I retire. I told myself that once I spend the same time dedicating to work I have dedicated to video games in the past, I can retire and go back to playing video games.

But by then there won't be any controllers, or a box, or a tv...

think about that for a second.

This

I never owned a system until about a year ago. But I grew up playing countless hours if a few games on my brothers n64: mario and mario cart, ocarina of time, goldeneye

Because of a fantasy series I was reading, but a ps4 to get witcher 3. Turns out. Game was incredible

Played last of us twice. Telltales game I thrones and some of walking dead

If I had infinite time, I would play video games Alot more. They r so sick nowadayd

I got a PS4 for my son and I for Christmas. I've been playing Bloodborne, Doom, Uncharted and Battlefield 1. I've never played Last of Us but I've heard great things about it and want to pick it up.

Does anyone here think there is a big future in VR?

I got invited to a VR expo a while ago, and it was weird it was extremely lacking in content... they had a stage with different speakers and they all basically said how excited they were about the tech, but nobody really knows what to DO with it. Everything seems sort of 'meh'/not worth it

The dude that invited me knows how to make it though, and has convinced me to make a short VR film based on an animated story I wrote and designed simply BECAUSE there is such limited content. Especially in the short film category, we viewed the best of last year and they all kind of sucked. Several big film festivals have a category now so he thinks its really high odds that you can get some attention while the competition is slim. We'll see what happens...

Back to the topic, I wanna see the new MARIOKART.
Now THAT would be fun in VR :D

The future is absolutely VR, but like anything it takes time. Also need to get rid of the headsets.

I see the future being more like a miniature projector that renders a digital 3d world in the area right around your eyes.

I see movement being the biggest restriction on stuff like that. The VR world seems to think a bunch of nerds want to run and jump, once they just accept that people want to sit and focus the tech on removing the hardware things will move faster.

If you liked the Last Of Us you may want to check out The Girl With All The Gifts. Supposedly (I wouldn't know since I have stayed away from the game plot so I don't ruin it) it is almost a movie version of the game.

The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) - IMDb

It's a good zombie movie and does not have a predictable plot.

I can't see it being healthy to be in VR for too long. I can't stand it after a few minutes

Having everyone hooked to their phones these days is bad enough, I shudder at the thought of as many people strapped into VR

freaky.

I would try VR MarioKart though, that could get dangerous lol

I'm conflicted. Is that representative??
Writer of that line is forgetting that competing with just Ur own screen versus seeing others is a different game. Both fun in their own ways

Wirh split screen, u can see when luigi is sneaky up and releases his red turtle shell. The u can drop Ur bananas!

I've been working with a company developing VR content for the last year. By and large your analysis is spot on. The content isn't there, but that's mostly because the money isn't there. The people investing in it have backed the wrong horses and missing out on what it could be. Augmented reality will likely surpass it in the next 5 years because it has much more practical application. VR could be incredible but there are a lot of technical and creative limitations that aren't being worked on hard enough by developers or anyone else.

Which may just be a good thing because VR has potential to auger the end of humanity as we know it.

There's other options if you're interested. I've almost pulled the trigger a few times on a Raspberry Pi 3 specifically for that purpose. You can have every game from every system (nes, sega ms, swag genesis / cd, super nes, bro geo, 3do, turbographix 16, Nintendo 64, NeoGeo, etc) on a little memory card.

One-upping the NES Classic Edition with the Raspberry Pi 3 and RetroPie

You can get some cool cases too.
