Leslie Smith got some very positive news this week in regards to her labor case against the UFC.

Region 4 of the National Labor Relations Board has made a determination that her claims have merit and will be filing a complaint against the UFC barring a settlement, Smith’s attorney Lucas Middlebrook told MMA Fighting on Friday.

Middlebrook said the NLRB investigator determined that there was a merit to their case, which claims that UFC fighters are employees — not independent contractors — and that Smith was discriminated against when the UFC released her....

Cliffs: the National Labor Review Board thinks there's enough of a chance that UFC fighters are treated like employees that they are going to file a complaint and have a hearing with a judge about the UFC retaliating against Leslie for her union activities unless the UFC settles the case.

She's not settling with the UFC unless they outright concede on this.

Also, Leslie Smith is fucking awesome, even if she doesn't end up winning this. She's a smart, tenacious badass with (metaphorical) balls of steel.

If Leslie is in it for herself then she should settle
If she is in it for the fighters, she shouldn't

but the collective did not support her trying to help them, so ....

Kinda strange that most of the fighters don't seem to care about supporting others that are fighting for them imo.

Here is the thing
I get fighters being weary of a union. Many of the roster are from countries that are not big on unions.

but if 30% cannot sign an info card, that is incredulous IMO
They can sign the card & still vote no on a union

Yup, bigger balls than any man on the roster. She keeps proving it.
Anybody who fights in the UFC who doesn't support her has ZERO business ever bitching about money or conditions going forward.

Of course crazy fuckers like Iaquinta have earned the right to bitch, 'cause he does it right in Dana's fat face.

This is big
Bigger than most think

Great share
I will hold my horses for now.
If I am not mistaken.
She got cut with one fight left on her contract, she refused to fight and they paid her, show money + win bonus for that fight.
The contract was done. And instead of renewing it they said no thanks.
How is that discrimination?

Also there where rumor's of her wanting 250K / fight she then went down to 100K / fight.

I will see how this plays out.

but that is the point
it is no longer about her
It is now about the UFC/fighter classification debate

I get that but you quoted me saying

I was explaining why.

While I support Smith & the project spearhead efforts, I don't think the issue with them letting her go was unjust.
But if NLRB is looking into the classifications, this is much bigger than her

Attorney: Leslie Smith case against UFC now in ‘holding pattern’ after change

Not so fast.

On Friday morning, Leslie Smith’s attorney Lucas Middlebrook told MMA Fighting that he was informed by a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) regional investigator that Smith’s case against the UFC was deemed to have merit and the NLRB would be filing an official complaint.

As it turns out, it won’t be that cut and dried.

Middlebrook said things changed just hours later, after news broke about the impending complaint. The labor lawyer said that the NLRB Region 4 investigator has now told him that it has now been decided that the case will have to go through the NLRB’s Division of Advice in Washington, D.C., before any decisions are made.

Somebody got an idea of what a shitstorm this could be and punted it up the line.
