Brazilian welterweight Erick Silva came into the UFC as a 27-year-old rising prospect with a 13-1-1 NC record and a Jungle Fight belt. However, after six and a half years in the Octagon, Silva now finds himself with an expired UFC contract and could be heading to a new promotion in 2018, as it was reported by MMA Fighting.

Unable to ever win more than two fights in a row during his UFC run, Erick Silva (19-9-1 NC) faced some of the most notable names at a welterweight, such as Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Dong Hyun Kim and Matt Brown.

However, the now 33-year-old has been bested four times in his last five fights, by the likes of Neil Magny, Nordine Taleb, Yancy Medeiros and most recently Jordan Mein last December. His only win during that span was a rear-naked choke submission of Luan Chagas in September 2016.

Although all of Erick’s wins were finishes, his current UFC record is a negative 7-8, which could hinder his chances of renewing his contract with the organization. So far, Erick has not made any announcements about potential career moves for the future.

I'd rather see him in Rizin. His record won't get much respect in America, but his fight style would go over big in Japan.

Such high hopes for this guy when he arrived to the UFC. Too bad he didn't live up to it.

USADA claimed him as well.
I'm not sure about the exact timeline but I think he turned into shit way before usada came in. not all losing streaks are a result of usada.
he always had bad cardio and a stupid fight style.

You know what? You may be right. I think he was victim of Dana's hyp train. He got matched with the absolute top and was given a fast track towards the title. (at least, that is what I gathered from it). It's one of those times the UFC would "push" a fighter. He just wasn't all that good. But, his physique has changed dramatically.

Nope. It was USADA. He literally went dad bod.

I remember his fight with Matt brown as a turning point. Dunno when that was in terms of usada

All 3 minutes if it lol
Yeah.

Silva is amazing for about 3 minutes of balls-to-wall action. Then he completely gasses himself out after missing 70% of his "strikes" - then stares into space talking to Paulo Filho's imaginary cornerman.

he isn't amazing even in those 3 minutes of cardio he has. even with a full tank he still has awful wrestling and no setups for his strikes. someone who throws more spinning kicks than round kicks and relies on overhand rights with no setup doesn't need usada to get turned into a journeyman.

Fun guy to watch fight. Similar to Drew McFedries.

Balls to the wall looking for a knockout, when it doesn’t come they wilt.
