SANTA ROSA, Calif. — The wind known as the Diablo has picked up again, the air is dry, there is no rain in sight and the killer wildfires ravaging Northern California’s wine country remained almost completely uncontained Thursday morning. Officials warned that some of the big fires could merge, even as new blazes erupted, and thousands of people have been told to prepare to leave their homes — if they haven’t already.
Killer wildfires continue to rage in California's wine country, with 23 dead and hundreds missing

Santa Rosa neighborhood with 175,000 people living in turned into ash

A lot of my family is un accounted for. My Grandfather lost his home and everything on the property. His 30 acre farm is completely scorched earth. He and my Granmother lived there 40 years. I managed to get there fast enough to help with some of the live stock but came home tues night. Everything is still burning. Not much containment. I have a video I took of his house but have no idea how to post it. All cellservice is down. Most of the people are in red cross shelters. Theres nowhere else to go.

His was the Atlas fire. All the roads were closed out of Napa up Silverado Trail. I pulled some shenanigans to get around the road blocks. Last time I talked to my Uncle and Cousins in Santa Rosa early Monday morning they were ok but its been a cell blackout since.

I spend every second I can outside in severe weather. (Tornadoes, thunderstorms, shit like that, I'd probably gtfo of a wildfire)

Regardless of where you live, there is always that chance of having a bad day. If everyone else in my neighborhood is hiding in their basement during severe weather, I'm sitting on my driveway.

This is the one that has always made me reconsider sitting outside. I had some family friends in Joplin, and they lost everything except their lives. You think that it always starts as a small little wisp...but then this shit falls out of the sky and wipes the earth clean.

Not drunk at all John. Just I am an unapologetic storm watcher, and if I die seeing a spectacular storm, I die. I'm cool with that. I just think this is an amazing video of how quickly things can go from nothing to holy fucking shit. Thats at least a half mile wide when the funnel touches down. Catching a tornado on film is on my bucket list, and I will go way further than most to do so, but I'd been diving for the nearest hole in the ground if I saw this one.

I think @Mix6APlix@Mix6APlix , considering we have a member that's tragically affected by the thread title's, we should consider that rather than turn this into yet another disaster thread.
Maybe make another one with what you're talking about.

I've been struck by lightning. I've had a tornado, albeit a small one, wreck shit in my neighborhood. Is what it is.

It' got to be the worst thing to be an animal tied up or caged in during some catestrophic weather - nature event while everyone is evacuating just leaving you there.

In most cases if time permits they will be let loose. My Grandfather did. They run away and hopefully come back. Thankfully he's only down to the three and not the 2 dozen they used to have. His sheep are all accounted for. His goats and chickens are missing. I don't believe he has cattle anymore. We were looking for his dog and didn't find him. The fires were flaring up again and old growth eucalyptus trees were falling down. So we had to leave without him. I'm heading back this weekend to help cleanup and help him figure out what hes doing next.

I also have family that were affected by the Middletown fires in 2015 and they were going around letting peoples horses and animals loose.

Edit. Your absolutely right though, that would be horrific.

Your grandfather has the foresight to set them free but some people wont because they would rather take a chance confining their animals to their property in hopes the extreme weather or natural disaster passes through without too much damage. You see it all the time unfortunately people just leaving their dogs chained up and a barn full of animals. The thing is if it's a barnful of pigs you really couldn' set them free. Its a hard decision I'm sure to just run for it knowing they will basically get burned up but if you let them go it can cause a lot of unintended problems if they survive and become feral. Just such a bad situation all around.

This fire is so bad. So many people lost their homes and businesses, 23 have lost their lives so far, could be more.

The firefighters are shorthanded, working 70 hr shifts and they say Fire could still spread to other neighbors, the airquality around the bay area is smokey, unhealthy.

most times when a fire breaks out people are at work and unable to get back home to set their animals free.once the road is closed and evacuation orders are issued you are not getting back home.animals in a barn will usually just stay in the barn even if the door is open.that is their home.horses in a field will figure out how to bugger off though and come back home when it is all said and done

I was at work one day and 20 miles in the distance I could see the mountain was on fire. I was worried about my house and dog. In the end it stayed about five miles away but it was a big fucken fire that they couldn't control. Shit was scary.
