Lombard's going to fight the ruling.

There's no question that the horn does not stop the fight. The question is... what exactly is the ref supposed to do? The ref held up his hand from 5 ft. to Lombards left. Are the fighters supposed to be able to recognize that with in one second while in the middle of a combination... or is the ref supposed to physically get between the fighters?

A DQ is the wrong call imo. Yes, the big strike did occur after the horn, & a half second after the ref raised his hand with a verbal stoppage... but the ref being so far away is a considerable problem. I'd be fine with a NC

Pause the video at 10 seconds & you will see Lombards first shot at the exact same time the refs hand comes up. That one was unquestionably legal. Now bump the video forward a frame or 2. Notice that when the 2nd shot comes in... the timeline in the video didn't even move off of the 10 second mark. I'm not seeing a DQ here. The ref needs to do his fooking job.

Ref said stop twice and Lombard still threw a punch. He knew damn well what he was doing and he did it anyway.

I'm not going to argue that the ref could have jumped in between them, but he said STOP two different times and Lombard didn't stop.

A DQ is the only correct call.

Watch the video again. The first strike lands at the exact same time the ref is saying stop, & the next shot was a part of the combo he was throwing that happened in less than a second. You can't expect a fighter to react in less than a second to a verbal command when he's all ready in motion.

The 2nd verbal command you speak of is actually after the final punch.

You're right about the second verbal command being after the bell, but the ref actually puts his arm/hand up for Lombard to stop, and Hector still throws the left that floors Dolloway.

He should've stopped. He could've stopped. He chose not to.

DQ was the only call to make. He knew what he was doing.
The whole thing went down in the coarse of 1 second.... while in the middle of a combo. We gotta be realistic about the flow of a fighter in motion.

I agree in a NC instead of a KO for Lombard being called, but a DQ is too much to ask for from a fighter in motion to react within one second & the ref 5 ft. away.

I didn't see what happened in this case but this adds up to the excessive drama about everything in mma. Fighters can't stop automatically mid combo no matter what sound goes off or what the referee does.

Protect yourself and finish the exchange. Guys slug themselves after the bell in muay thai all the time and no one goes crying about it.

Did you do what the OP asked & pause the Vid at 10 seconds? That's when the ref first raised his hand & began the verbal stoppage. That's when the first punch of the combo landed as well. Go forward a few frames to see the 2nd shot & the timeline is still on 10 seconds. What you're asking Lombard to do is to recognize a stoppage while in motion in less than a second.

I think you may have trained before...I agree 100%, this was a two piece combo that he trained extensively and it is muscle memory

CB dropped that guard and the second strike was n0 more than a second late...a second late strike happens all the time in combat sports

All 3 people have a part in this DQ...CB Ref and Hector

I paused it at least 20 times at various points. I'm mot seeing what you're seeing, honestly. I'm seeing Lombard wind up and throw the punch after the referee says "TIME".

Chael is a fucking clown most of the time

One cheater defending another cheater, shut up Chael, a child could tell you that was after the bell, Lombard needs to use his brain

I have a very hard time taking anything Chael says seriously.

It's either shtick or promotion of one of the companies he's currently employed by, imo.

he shouldn't have been disqualified. the ref should have dragged CB out for the start of the second and held him up so hector could punch his head off.

Well you can't see the ref's face... so while it's paused, you can't tell when he says "time"... but if you watch the video with sound on, it's at the same time as his hand comes up.

With the video on "pause" you can grab the scroll bar & nudge it forward frame by frame & you will see his hand come up at 10 seconds of the video... just as Lombard's first of the 2 strikes lands. The other shot came in a fraction of a second after that as evidenced by the video counter that is still on the 10 second mark for both shots.

I'm on my phone so unless I download the video, I can do that.

But even without going frame by frame, I can see Lombard willfully throw that left hand after he hears the referee say "time".

Have you read any of the stories about what kind of person Lombard is in sparring and in the gym?
The late punch is not surprising to me in the least given his character.

MyrddinWild @MyrddinWild Lombard also gave a quote today or last night saying that Dolloway didn't want to fight any more, which is absolutely ridiculous imo.

Just by looking at Dolloway's face, you could see the guy was concussed.
