Hi All,
So over the past year I've been hitting the gym pretty regularly and have gotten in to decent shape. I've always had a bit of belly, and even though it's shrunk a bit since I got more serious about working out (and I see a couple of abs poking through for once in my life), I know that to get rid of the rest of this belly it will come down to diet and nutrition as well.

Does anybody have any good Diet/Nutrition tips for cutting down a belly? Are there certain foods that really effect belly fat specifically? Is it all just about cutting down on sugars, breads, etc.?

Any tips/advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Cut out junk. When that stops working, cut carbs and calories. It's not as bad as you might think. Yes it is really just about cutting out processed foods.

N.H. @NorthernHospitality just did a Biggest Loser challenge and stripped loads of body fat. Maybe she has some tips

When I get a little tubby, I drop the sugar all together. Making sure I stay below the daily 40 grams a day. The last bit of bodyfat always require a bit of fine tuning, mostly diet related. That means no alcohol, and no sugar. Other than that, it's just calories in vs calories out for me. Good luck sir.

Unable to cut belly fat.

Must cut all fat.

Depending on genetics, expect belly to come a little slow and late.

Abs are primarily made in kitchen. But resistance training and some moderate amount of cardio make for good additions in overall health, increased fat burning, and increased lean body mass, which lowers body fat percentage.

Do you drink sodas? Stop that now.
Other caloric filled drinks? Gone! They don't fix hunger and you will fail wasting calories on them. These are low hanging fruit so start there first and know that once that is done you will be well on your way.

Download myfitnesspal app. Log everything. You have to get used to eyeballing food better than you are used to. Sooooooo many hidden calories in things you'd never expect.

And finally, don't beat yourself up if you mess up. Just dust off and refocus for the next day. Don't get into the mindset that "well too late now..."

Shit is a marathon, not a sprint.

These guys here pretty much nailed it. Its all about accountability and trying different things to see how your body responds to macro cycling. My recent online client lost 14 lbs in his first month with me and now we have to see how he loses going forward to see if things need to be tweaked. You guys can always check my IG if you want i put up info there JtnewimagePT

I can send you a pic of my abs. Print it out and tape it to your refrigerator. Give it a good look before you think about opening that fridge to eat some bad food.

Or you can attempt the teamquestnorth @ConorStoleMyHippoHopes diet. He eats around $150 a week of fast food and still has chiseled 6 pack abs.

Thanks for the feedback everybody.

I don't drink Soda, mostly water, and maybe a coffee or 2 throughout the day (that could be part of it).

I've used My Fitness Pal in the past, and it definitely helps, but haven't used it for a while. Will probably get back on it soon as I plan on getting more strict with my diet to help me trim some of this remaining fat.

Also, indeed I know this is a marathon not a sprint. I'm looking for a long term nutritional/diet adjustment, not interested in any of those "shortcut" diets or supplements with this.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Very smart approach IT IS a marathon and not a sprint and a NUTRITION program is what you need NOT a diet so good on you for knowing that. If you post pics that could help as well. Do you know if you are carb sensitive, and what is your GOOD fat intake for the day?

I love this tagging shit! :)

Yeah man I lost 8.5 inches of belly fat in 8 weeks... All I ate was meat ( and the yummy fat..i ate all that too) eggs, nuts, fish, and vegetables.. I drank Pellegrino, tea, regular water, and black coffee...

When I craved sugar I made a shake of 2 cups unsweetened almond milk, 1 heaping teaspoon of frys cocoa, 1 packet of skinnygirl organic stevia, half an avocado, 3 hunks of ice, blend that shit up and om nom nom,.

I lost weight eating bacon and eggs everyday.. No carbs, no sugar,no booze, no processed food, no fruit, no fuck all... did the gym 90 mins a day for 4-6 days a week... I'm still going.. but more laxed a bit now that the contest is over, and i'm still loosing..I'm down 39 pounds.

YOU GOT THIS!

Damn, great job girl, proud of you, and thanks for the straight forward advice. Very helpful! Definitely going to take notes of this.

Thanks for the info everybody. I don't have a pic on my phone I can post here right now, but will post something later.

For reference, I'm 26 years old, 6' tall, and about 193 lb. Size 32 (or 33?) waist. Go to the gym 3-4 days a week, usually for at least 90 mins, longer when I have time.

As some of you I used to weigh over 320 lbs. I'm currently about 185 but I was as low as 170. I've upped my workouts and put on a large amount of muscle in the last 6 months. I was sort of fat all over, I didn't have a big gut but I did have that spare tire look. When I decided to lose the weight I went into it with everything I had. I don't expect you to do that but I cut out all processed foods, all I ate was raw veg and chicken. That's basically it. I drank a shit ton of water as well. I ate two larger meals consisting of a few cups of veg and the equivalent of a cup of cooked chicken. I would snack of vegetables six times a day when I felt hungry. Keep your metabolism going, water helps but eat a lot of vegetables.

Like some have said, cut out all processed foods, don't drink anything but water. Sugary drinks are nothing but empty calories like most processed foods. One dude posted that it's about calories in versus calories out. That is incorrect. The calories in depend on what the calories are. Eating 1000 calories of shit food affects your body in different ways than 1000 calories of clean food. An example is what processed sugar does to your body and how it makes you fat. It's not just that it makes you fat but it also tricks you that what you are eating isn't making you feel full so you eat more.

My advice, work out more, do more cardio. Cut out all processed foods and try to eat below 2000 calories if you can handle it. I'd add a protein suppliment to your diet if you haven't already but get a clean one. Some are full of sugar and weight gain bullshit. Have fun, it's enjoyable when you see positive changes in your body and it's not going to happen over night. Also, don't worry if you have a cheat day. I lost 150 lbs in just over a year, it's possible.

Amazing story and great advice. Big congrats on your lifestyle change, happy to hear.

I've been consistent on the workout side for over a year now, although I admit I am not going as hard as I can, there is room for improvement. The nutrition side is something I haven't really focused on, and the advice and motivation in this thread has been great :)

AKA I'm passing on this info to my wife so she can help me meal prep :p lol

Thanks guys

People say this way of eating isn't healthy... I couldn't disagree more... The pounds melt off, your hormones level out, I don't crave the bad shit as often as I used too, I quit drinking... being in Ketosis is so euphoric I recommend it before any drug :)

I haven't had a real mensus in 10 years and for the past 2 months i've gotten it, on the same day as the month before ( never happened in my entire life) I'm more in control of my mood, I'm happier, and feel more connected with my body...

Try it dude!

I personally know OGers who have done this WOE (way of eating) since January without exercise due to surgeries and they have lost over 100lbs

This WOE is recommended for people with epilepsy and has helped people feel amazing through cancer treatments.

If youre on facebook PM me and i'll hook you up with groups that do this and the transformation pics will blow your mind!

KEEP IT KETO! :) SO FREAKING EASY! YOU CAN EAT DESSERT ON THIS SHIT AND STILL LOOSE!

I made this strawberry shortcake for my mother in law's birthday....

The cream cheese and whipping cream is full of fat! ( you want all that shit up in your life)
I made the crust with almond flour and crushed almonds mixed with butter ( more fat and delish nuts)
Added a quarter cup of stevia
Strawberries are the only thing with sugar really that this diet avoids but it's a LOW carb high fat dessert so you can still eat this.

Here are the numbers for the WHOLE pan.

Recipe net carb count - accounting for the fiber in the nuts and berries and the sugar alcohols.... the entire pan is about 84 grams of carbs. Rundown - 8 oz cream cheese 12.53 g carb
1.5 sticks butter <1 g carb
1 cup almonds 19.83 g carb - 11.5 g fiber = 8.33 g carb
1 cup almond flour 20.47 g carb - 11.9 g fiber = 8.57 g carb
1 quart stawberries 55 g carb - 14 g fiber = 41 g carb
1 pt h whipping cream 13 g carb
1.25 c. Erythritol sweetener 270 g carb- 270 Erythritol = 0 g carb Some sweeteners say 4 carbs- some say 5... went with 4.5
Total 83.43 NET

YEP! I ATE HALF OF THIS PAN! ( I got pretty stoned lol) and I still lost 2 pounds this week :)

P.S. The butter tarts were for the non low carbers.

Don't eat much junk at all.
Im in the same boat.
Tried myfitnesspal. Lost some weight. Then it stalled. I stopped using the app as it got too obsessive for me.

I don't know what to do.
When I was losing weight I was Feeling starved during the night and that would wake me up for a snack of some kind in order to sleep.
I'd be feeling tired because I wouldn't sleep properly. Low carbs is tough for me.
Also I'm lifting and well, can't be trying to lose weight while trying to gain some strength. I
I'm not looking for chiseled abs for just to lose that gut.

I set up an appointment with a dietitician. Guess if I pay for it it will whip me to do it properly and hopefully I will learn some useful tricks or plan.

Bear in mind, I'm a desk jockey, I lift 4 times a week and that's about it.
I got two little kids to raise so time is somewhat limited.
Also cooking wise I feel I can't go low carb hardcore because I need to cook potatoes-rice/pasta for those energizer bunnies aka kids.
Yeah ok call me lame ... But any help will be appreciated.
