The five-hundred-year era of Western civilization dominance is over, the strategy of Westernization of the entire world has failed and the center of the world economy has shifted to the East, and the next century will be the century of Eurasia, said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"Five hundred years of Western civilization dominance are over... Liberal progressive dominance in the Western world is over. The idea that the whole world should be organized according to the Western model, and that the nations selected for this would be ready for this in exchange for economic and financial benefits, has failed," Orban said, speaking at the Eurasia Forum in Budapest.
More and more countries are rejecting the universal values of the West, Orban said
According to him, the new reality is that Asian states "have become stronger and have proven that they are capable of rising, existing and surviving as independent centers of economic and political power," as a result of which "the center of the world economy has shifted to the East, and Eastern economies are growing four times faster than Western ones."
"For several hundred years now, the West has become accustomed to the fact that we are the most beautiful, the smartest, the most developed and the richest. And one day to see and realize that we are no longer the most beautiful, the smartest, the most developed and the richest is not an easy task," the Hungarian Prime Minister noted.
Orban believes that "the next century will be the century of Eurasia," since it is the largest continent, home to 70% of the world's population and whose share in the world economy exceeds 70%.
"Europe is the loser from today's changes in the world... Judging by purchasing power parity, if the European Union were part of the United States, it would be the third poorest state. This shows that Europe is constantly losing and is the number one loser in the current processes. European countries are no longer among the top five countries in the world economy," he said.
Europe, according to him, cannot place itself in the Eurasian context, now among European leaders "there is not enough intellectual power" to "get out of the bubble", abandon the idea of dividing into blocs, build relations with Asian countries and benefit from the fact that Europe is part of Eurasia, otherwise the European economic lag will persist for many years to come.
Earlier, Orban stated that the world economy, as a result of the suicidal policy of the West, which includes sanctions, risks being divided into Western and Eastern blocs, Hungary does not want to belong to either, while maintaining close economic ties with both. According to him, in the context of the decline in competitiveness of the West, Hungary wants to find its own economic model, composed of the most acceptable global models, without directly borrowing Eastern methods, but also without being limited to blocs.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has previously repeatedly stated that Budapest does not support the idea of a new Cold War and an "iron curtain" between the countries of the East and the West, and believes that in order to avoid economic collapse, Europe should develop cooperation with Asia in the current geopolitical situation. According to him, the driving force behind major economic changes in the world are the countries of the East.
