The law goes into effect Monday and will be implemented over the next decade by the state officials at the Oregon Health Authority.

Advocates say the pivot will be life-changing for thousands of Oregonians.

“One of the things people misunderstand is how criminalization creates barriers to treatment,” says Kassandra Frederique, the executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, a national nonprofit dedicated to legalizing illicit drug use. “If we want people to make different choices, we have to give them more options ... ending criminalization will do leaps and bounds around ending shame, which automatically opens people up for other opportunities.”

Tbh I'm more interested in gods that are born in volcanoes, shoot lightning, and get blowjobs from queens. Jesus isn't my area of expertise.

so what happens if u get caught selling a pound of heroin but u arent an addict?
you just claim that you identify as an addict and call the judge and jury bigots if they disagree. or you can claim to be a non binary addict who doesn't stick to any addiction.

It's a feel good story. Truth is when I was locked up in lower custody levels half the jail was waiting for a bed at a rehab. The reason for this was every low level drug dealer that got caught with a crack rock lies and says they smoke it to beat the sales case and to get a sweet rehab program instead of a short prison or jail term. While these addicts are in treatment centers they are meeting new connections in the drug world.

If they implement drug tests after the arrest and the person is caught with the same drugs they possess in their system them I think it's a good idea. But anyone that's been in the system knows how hard they scam these places

I know a friend that did this when he was caught with an 8ball for his second time instead of a year in county he did a 90 day drug program and he met a few new customers. He would never test positive for anything other than weed and he wasted some dudes rehab bed. Hes a fat fuck too

It's sad how many people die from drugs and especially young ones.

I don't think drug use is gonna increase much
I see drugged out folks already all over Oregon
Not like a bunch of folks are gonna dive into stuff that weren't already

Put some of that drug jail/prison money into some community services and some youth programs or something good like that
