Joe wins because he spends all his time training in standup whereas Daley, despite being a pretty skilled striker, is an MMA fighter. Obviously his background is in kickboxing but he was never at the highest levels. If Daley quit MMA and dedicated himself constantly to kickboxing only I think he could be pretty good, but probably not elite
Regardless, I would never miss a Paul Daley fight. One of my cousins.. the first MMA event/'fight he ever saw was Diaz vs Daley back in 2011 at my place. Needless to say that fight single handily got him into the sport and he is a hardcore like us 4 years later

PS not trying to downplay Daley at all. it's just like if someone like Joe Schilling went in against an elite top 10 MMA fighter. He has great kickboxing skills but MMA isn't his main focus, so against someone who lives their life around that sport, he probably wouldn't do so great
Then again... Some MMA vs K1 fights (under K1 rules) have interestingly gone the way of the MMA fighter. Overeem's K1 success, Rampage and Don Frye vs Cyril Abidi
But it's gone both ways.. Don Frye vs JLB, Aoki vs Nagashima (where ironically enough Aoki lost in the MMA round or split rules fight) etc

Agreed. That fight was fucking awesome. I love Bellator's direction right now. We need that kind of alternative. I really enjoy watching fun fights. Just because they are not revolving around the top 15 rankings like in the UFC, doesn't mean they shouldn't happen. I wish the UFC would put on fights like Schilling vs Manhoef. It might actually make fans give a shit... IMO they should have signed Tyrone Spong right away. Bring him up, don't feed him to the wolves immediately.. If they're gonna sign someone like CM Punk and do that.. why not do it with an amazing striker who is guaranteed to bring fun fights? Spong vs another striker would be a PERFECT prelim main event or main card opener.
Totally agree. Would love to see sprong vs the ufc elite strikers. It could tip wether or not I ordered a card I enjoy it so much. Same with 90% of top class kickboxErs. It's exciting to see you know
Agreed. Also, I am a huge fan of mixed cards. I really love it in Japan when they do K1 style rules and MMA rules fights on the same show. it's just something new/fun. Even mixed rules fights are fun (Aoki vs Nagashima, where round 1 was MMA and round 2 was kickboxing.. that fight was HILARIOUS and ended with sweet justice for Aoki's BS antics in round 1).
When Affliction was around and partnered with Golden Boy, that was their plan. The Fedor/Arlovski show was supposed to have boxing and MMA on it, with pretty high profile fights too. That would hav ebeen cool. They changed their minds though....
Personally I'd love to see a show where you had the top 3 fights with elite champs across the 3 sports. Mayweather's team has already signed some MMA and kickboxing guys - Mayweather almost bought a controlling interest in GLORY before they fucked up with delaying theirs hows. That's why he was always promoting them and seen on screen
Imagine if 10 years from now.. Mayweather/Haymon are doing shows where you get a high level boxing title match, a igh level GLORY style kickboxing match, AND a high level MMA match? Not just random guys, but the ELITE of the ELITE all on one show?
I would fucking love that. My favorite nights are when we happen to get the UFC, a GLORY show (in the past K1) and a boxing show, all on 3 different channels.
Now imagine seeing a boxing war/slugfest like Guerrero vs Thurman from last night.. Along with a Zambidis vs Chahid style fight.. and say, Weidman vs Vitor. ALL ON ONE show?
SPIKE has all 3 now.. They should combine to do one huge year end show every year with a title fight for each sport. I would KILL for something like this.
Maybe I shouldn't post this idea for free... Sounds like something I could make good money from ; )
