An audit report, opens new tab(page 4 of the pdf) released on Feb. 25, 2000, about financial statements for the fiscal year 1999 by the Office of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Defense says, “For the accounting entries, $2.3 trillion was not supported by adequate audit trails or sufficient evidence to determine their validity, $2 trillion was not reviewed because of time constraints, and $2.6 trillion were supported.”

Eh, Ukraine is a minor line item in the Pentagon's budget, no matter the rhetoric. They were earmarked $816 billion in 2023 alone. I don't think any of us individuals can even fathom the amount of money they spend. The scale just doesn't translate into something we can relate to.

Take all the hookers and blow that exist in the world and they could spend that 10 times over and still have money left over.

Anyone who can make even a minor optimization to that kind of spending will have a material improvement on every American's life, provided it isn't squandered elsewhere. A man can dream...
