Green Party Leader Elizabeth May says it's time the federal government declared the opioid crisis a national emergency and decriminalized illicit drugs to prevent deaths.
"This is not a criminal issue. This is a health issue, and we have to adequately support people in our society who are dealing with illness and ill health," May told Stephen Quinn, the host of CBC's The Early Edition.
The CBC has asked all federal parties to comment on the issue of a safe drug supply. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has declined to comment. The NDP and Liberal parties have not yet provided a response.

"If you don't vote, you can't complain!"
I never understood that, but hear it all the time. I figure if you vote, you are giving your endorsement to the process, you participated and thus gave your consent for the winner to rule over you and make their decisions. How can you complain after agreeing to the rules? Fair's fair, that's democracy, right? So shut up and celebrate your rightful ruler.
yeah im not going to be doing that
BC better not go kookoo for Jaggi and make him king maker....
Am I completely retarded for not voting? Does anyone else here also feel its little more than an insulting trick to invert the direction of how power works? Do we really choose and have control over who rules us? Or is it all a trick to appease us and make us think we're free and hold power over government? Does power really go up the pyramid, and not down?
I understand there is a small window of issues that may differ from candidate to candidate, and see some value in participating in local politics, but at this federal level I just can't shake the thought that its just an offensive illusion. Whatever issues we can vote in or out, I think its extremely narrow and the rest will just go on as scheduled. Honestly, It would feel demeaning and dishonest if I were to go play a game I believed was rigged and fooling me, go vote for some lesser of 2 evils but knowing the guy is still a puppet corrupt sociopath politician. I just can't do it, but often take a lot of flack for it.
