General Poor Dan Quinn. Stevia now considered one of the most unhealthy sweeteners.

Yeah, Stevia was the least of his issues. I get the appeal of the out-there characters that this sport brought to light, but pushing the guy further into his delusions borders on cruel. Reminds me of the IT equivalent: Terry Davis. Very intelligent guy, great programmer, started suffering from schizophrenia and spent all his time coding an old school operating system called TempleOS that he thought God talked to him through.

He was living with his parents who were taking care of him. Couple of trolls decided to buy him a drum set, which he'd play all hours of the day until his parents couldn't take it anymore, and they kicked him out. He wandered from place to place for a couple of years when he was hit by a train in Oregon. They don't know if it was an accident or suicide.

I remember him getting banned from one forum after another since it didn't take much to wind him about how the CIA was plotting against him. Let's just say he'd describe them in terms that'd make him right at home at the OG back in the day. :D

Came across this article about Quinn back in his football days. It's interesting seeing the seeds of what was to come, with the benefit of hindsight:

Quinn back in his football days
I never knew he played for Notre Dame

Quinn played football at Notre Dame at the inside linebacker position and occasionally special teams as a tackling specialist.[1] While attending the school, he was involved in a bitter feud with Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz and starter Frank Stams. Quinn alleged that Holtz assaulted players and engaged in illegal point shaving by not allowing him more time on the field to make "spectacular fucking plays".[2]

Notre Dame students held an annual benefit boxing event known as Bengal Bouts on March 7, 1986, with he proceeds going towards the Holy Cross Missions of Bangladesh. Quinn took part in a super heavyweight match against fellow football player Parnell Taylor. Quinn emerged victorious in a split-decision.[3] The following year, the two met in a rematch with Taylor coming out on top in a unanimous decision.[4]

In April 1987, Holtz suspended Quinn and four of his teammates and barred them from participating in upcoming practice drills. Holtz did not give a reason for the suspension, but did say, "they're not bad kids, they just made a bad decision".[5

I always expected to read some news article about Roger being found drugged and handcuffed to some basement pipes, malnourished and near death while she was barricaded in some room from the SWAT team, wearing that strapon from Se7en.
lol, same here

Quinn was the high school/college football star who never went anywhere because he couldn't move on in his life and got stuff where he was living on/in past glory.

It was very strange. After a couple of years on here someone must've mentioned Dan Quinn and Splinty @Splinty who founded this place with wild and never been on the UG marked out like a little kid. He didn't realize anyone else knew about Dan Quinn or Stevia and could do some funny Dan Quinn style posts.

Same, it happened way too much, same with jacobear and you my girlfriend now, everyone said it was the greatest thread ever, I didn't see it that way.
The Jacobear thread was different in my opinion, as in his case his obsession wasn't the supposed healing powers of a sweet tasting plant extract, it was acting inappropriately with women - sometimes underage.
